Does Pages Work on Word?

I have Microsoft Office 2011 on my iMac and just ordered the new iPad.
I want to be able to do Pages on my iPad and the download cost $10.
Do I have to order Pages for $19.99 on my iMac to read documents I type on my iPad? Or will I be able to use Pages on my iPad and open those documents through Word?

You can save the document as a Word file and email it to yourself.

You will be fine.
I do the same - edit documents using pages or numbers on my iPad, and then open them via Offce 2011 on my MacBook perfectly fine, and vice versa.
