Bit big for a touch replacement. You're not jogging with one of those on your arm.

"Hold off on buying our 7" tablet, because Apple's got one coming soon." - Samsung

Samsung has little to worry. They sell 7.7" tablet with SAMOLED panel. Apple tablets are not going to get this tech so they will be inferior anyways.

As a develolper I hope not, unless they maintain the 1024x768 resolution it is going to cause fragmentation in UI requirements. As a user I really don't care, I don't see myself wanting smaller than 9.7", it is the perfect size IMO.

Something that size might sell well to some, but I don't think it would be in Apple's best interest. At least at that size, it's actually usable as a tablet (unlike some devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note which combine the worst features of a phone and a tablet; the importability of a tablet without the screen of a tablet).

I'm holding out for the iPhone mini.

Canada, eh?
Personally I think Apple should do it. I feel that, for adults, the current size is perfect -- however, for kids, the size would be better for smaller hands.

I think a tablet the size of a Fire or Playbook yet with all the power and app support of the iPad would be a pretty nice device. And that size is coat-pocketable, unlike the iPad which I will have to carry around in a bag of some sort. I'd be interested. Except I ordered an iPad 3 the new iPad already.

I love anonymous Samsung executives.
They are as reliable as those butt-raping extraterrestrials or Bigfoot.

Big Foot uses Android. Big hands use iPad.

I'd be interested in what Apple can do. They don't make garbage, so if they actually released an 8" iPad, I bet it would be worth while. And it would be a whole lot better than any other 7/8" tablet.

But I like the 9.7" iPad just fine. It's the perfect mobile computer that does 90% of what I need to do on a computer.

I want a bigger tablet: say 15"

It is a nitch use and will still keep the current form factor, but one can dream. ;)

As a developer you should figure things out how to deal with different resolutions.

Like the rest of the computer world's developers are doing just fine.

Why it will fragmentate your applications if the aspect ratio is slightly different? It cannot be that difficult, come on.

The 4:3 aspect ratio sucks with movies. Dont you agree?

Samsung are probably trolling.

Apple wouldn't make a smaller iPad. Otherwise it will fall into the "not a phone, not a tablet, well what the **** is it then" category that the Galaxy Note is currently dominating.

After the ******** adverts and the ******** lawsuits from Samsung why should we trust this steamy mess oozing from this executives mouth?

This claim helps to explain why Apple renamed the product line to just 'iPad' rather than continuing the trend of numbers. By keeping it to just the name, they could add a 'mini/nano' on the end rather than the more questionable sounding iPad 3 Mini

Apple could release a tablet with that display resolution for $299 to compete with the Kindle Fire. Just not sure that Apple would want to release a new product with downgraded specs, and how it would affect iPod Touch sales (not so worried about the iPhone because it is, after all, a phone).

Smaller iPad, or remote for new Apple TV?
Both? They realized the iPod Touch was too small and a normal iPad would be cost prohibitive? And once they're making it for a remote, why not sell it separately for those who have been asking for it. After all making more of them will reduce the per unit cost for them.

Also, imagine buying a second remote so 2 people can scroll through listings separately then deciding together what to what.
