Diablo III, the much-anticipated sequel to one of Blizzard's main franchises, now officially has a release date. According to Blizzard's website, the horror game will be go live on May 15th.

It is available for pre-order, and eventually pre-download, from Blizzard's Battle.net service. Users will download the game before it actually is released, and the game will be enabled at midnight on the 15th. Reports OS X Daily:
Blizzard Entertainment has had the game in development seemingly forever (2001!), but it appears the long wait has been worth it. Gameplay is a mixture of dungeon crawling and hack-and-slash with RPG elements, there are five different character classes each with their own skillset, and there's also a multiplayer PvP mode.

Diablo III is $59.99 and can be pre-ordered directly from Blizzard or any number of other retailers.

Glad more developers actually take the OS X platform seriously now, but I'm not liking that the require a constant internet connection just to play...

Best news I've had this month! If I play this anywhere near as much as Diablo 2, this game will easily carry me into next year.

It's to help combat the horrific hacking that came along with all client side game files. Who doesn't have constant internet anyway for goodness sake?

Blizzard have always thought on us when developing games.
There hasn't been any different in release date for the mac and the pc since they released SC (pc 1998, mac 1999), the only thing you might happen to see is that the pc beta are up a little bit before.
Blizzard are one of the best gaming companies, and i think part of the popularity they have are because they don't think pc are more for gaming then a mac is.

System Requirements

  • Mac® OS X 10.6.8, 10.7.x or newer
  • Intel® Core 2 Duo
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT or ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 or better
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 12 GB available HD space
  • DVD-ROM (required for retail disc versions only)
  • Broadband* Internet connection
  • 1024x768 minimum resolution

My Mac mini 2010 has an nVidia 320M... since I switched to Mac I stopped following the GPU upgrade treadmill, can anyone confirm that the 320m will be supported? I don't plan on playing in 1920x1080 either, probably 1280x1024 most of the time.

With this soon to be out of the way, when can their next RTS (SC2:HotS,) be expected?

Hmmm... work started in July 2010, they said they were halfway done as of July 2011, so I guess July 2012?

Supported Graphics Card List ordered by performance.

320m is not listed; however, Intel's HD Graphics 3000 is an equivalent is supported as Low Performance.

Anyone know if Blizzard still comes out with demos?

I have never played a Diablo game in my life so I would like to play a little bit of it before I put down $50.

Based on everything including the playable Starcraft II demo, there should be one for Diablo III within a few months.
