If i create USB Installer for WIndows 7 or 8 & add the "bootmgfw.efi" to \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\
Could you post example for rEFInd.conf, for Winodws7 Here what i have now, I get black screen w/ Windows 7, but windows 8 will load.
Code:timeout 5 scanfor internal,external,optical,cd default_selection 1 graphics off menuentry "Windows 7" { loader \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi } EOF
This is mostly correct, but:
- The manual menu entry is useless, both because there's no "manual" option in your "scanfor" line and because the "external" option in the "scanfor" line means that the Windows 7 boot loader on your USB installer should be auto-detected. Thus, I'd just remove the Windows 7 menu entry definition.
- The "EOF" at the end of the example is useless. There's a "# EOF" line at the end of the sample file (a holdover from rEFIt). Note the comment character ("#"); it's there just to tell the user that it's the end of the file ("end of file" = "EOF"). In practice, rEFInd ignores configuration file keywords it doesn't understand, so this line has no practical effect, but it's best to remove it anyhow, since it's conceivable that I'll add new keywords in future versions of the program, and if you happen to have one that matches something I use in the future, it could have unintended consequences.
As to your overall question, I'm afraid I can't answer it, except to say that this thread has shown that Windows 8 seems to handle Mac hardware in EFI mode better than does Windows 7, so you're presumably seeing that effect. AFAIK, this has nothing to do with rEFInd.
