Maybe I'm just nit-picking, but to say "It was our best iPad launch EVER" implies they've been doing it for ages. 3 launches, all with strong demand.... Either way, good on 'em.

No it implies that since iPads have been being launched, this is the best one.

Yeah, but they presold them for about a month before actual release and it's a $199 device.

Point was you were talking about distribution and delivery of 3 million devices so I gave you the Kindle Fire. They all shipped at the same time, i.e., distribution and delivery of millions of units on one specific day. I wasn't talking about Kindle Fire sales (see: previous post to you).

That's me, being surprised:

I'm still confident iPad sales will still grow respectably and beat off competitors, I just don't think the launch was particularly impressive, and I'm seeing the after hours stock trades dwindle back down from the pre-announcement high around $605 to the regular market close which was solely due to the dividend announcement. It will be an interesting day tomorrow.

Finally, I'm getting some company here. It's been lonely telling the truth around here on this topic, depressing as it is.

15m last quarter, 3m in 4 days, I would hardly call that depressing. I think some people need to get realistic.

Honestly I wasn't even sure that Apple would have a good supply of Retina displays for launch.

Read that Sharp and LG will be coming onboard soon which will help. Wouldn't be surprised if the Samsung panels are say a month away from exhaustion of supply (baseless speculation)

That being said I don't know who in their right mind would guess that 5 million iPads would be sold in 3 days.

Not only are iPads expensive as compared to subsidized phones but they conflict with notebooks like the MBA when you compare high end iPads.

As much as I love my iPad ....my iPhone is on a higher pecking order on my scale of Wants versus Needs.

You're moving the goal posts. The KF had the busiest qtr (Holiday) in which to sell in those numbers. It's less than half the cost of the new iPad and utilizes hardware that is easily sourced as opposed to the iPad.

Don't think your rebuttal using the KF was really all that germane.

Indeed, people are acting as if any other company sells any other product anywhere remotely close to this. What did they expect?? Like 20 million sold in 3 days??

I'm not sure how the number is "disappointing"? They sold 4 million iPhone 4S units in one weekend and those were subsidized.

This is an unsubsidized device that costs at least 2x more than the 4S at launch. Plus, there are more countries to be launched this week.

I think our expectations have jumped the shark.

The really funny thing is that I probably own a whole lot more Apple stock than you. So truly I'll be the one laughing when I cash in my shares. But right now, as a fan and shareholder, no I don't like this sales number. I'm hardly being a h8tr, just realistic.

That number doesn't account for how many IPad 2s they sold at the cheaper rate. Some people may think the iPad 2 is enough. Just because some investors think 3 million in sales of a 600 dollar device is bad doesn't mean others have to agree with that nonsense. It was silly IMO to think Apple would realistically do 5m in sales the first weekend I don't care if it launched in every country on the planet at the same time.

It just shows that your expectations aren't in line with reality, Chupa.

Agreed. Seems to be assuming an ideal world with unlimited supply and 100% of those rich countries being potential iPad customers. Not everyone is interested.

What number would you have been impressed with as a shareholder and apple fan?

Nevermind, I see you were expecting 5M. As stated earlier by someone else, ROTFLMAO.

Actually, it wasn't me who mentioned the distribution and delivery...

Maybe time to sell some. :p

It's not 3 million!

It's 'The new Million'.

Or 'Million (3rd Generation)'.
