It was the first couple of weeks I think. It was a pain to get a decent unit and I was worn down to the point of I'd take any iPad 2 no matter the packaging as long the damn thing didn't look like crap.

It's unfortunate to think that we paid 50 more just to get the retail box.

Still peeved that I ended up getting a refurb after paying a "brand new" price tag but at least someone has experienced what I went through.

How old was your iPad 2 before you got the brown box?

Just sad to think that my 4 day old brand new iPad 3 was replaced with a refurb unit. I should have waited and just purchased a 450 refurb when they come out then.

I should have chosen to return and rebuy instead of genius bar.

Brown Box iPads are not refurbs at the moment, they are new iPads due to there being no refurbs ATM;)

No there is a slight dimming but that pales in comparison with some of the others i have had, this screen is white and for the most part uniform. My mate has a perfect screen with lovely whites, but instead of the slight dim on the left he has a ping hue in its place....

There is just no winning at the moment so getting a white screen is winning one of the wars, and limiting the dim will win you a battle also;)) But dims can only be limited in my 7 ipad experience, this is the best so far;)

B;)

Sounds just like my display :p Thanks for the info.

I exchanged an iPad with a slight yellow tint toward the top left. The new one is absolutely perfect right out of the box. Plus, blacks seem deeper, and colors seem to pop out even more.

The first one might have "self-healed" over time but I wasn't aware of that possibility at the time.

BTW, I took the opportunity to upgrade from 16 GB to 64 GB. It feels like a breath of fresh air :D.

This new iPad is such an eye-feasting, endorphin-inducing gem! I haven't felt as excited for a product in a long while.

Here is my screen, received it on launch day...

I like the display, it just has an uneven backlight. The left side of the screen is noticeably dimmer than the right. Otherwise the build quality is impeccably :apple:-like.

Congrats, sounds terrific.

Is the backlight even or are there any uniformity issues, like the display looks different on the left side than the right side, especially if you split the on-screen keyboard and look at both Shift-keys? Is one slightly off-color than the other one or are they 100% identical?

Would be interesting to know if such displays do in fact exist.

my ipad is exactly like yours. dimmer in the upper left corner when in portrait, with a slight darkness all the way down the left side. have an appt at apple today, and based on that i will either just stick with mine, which i will admit is faint, or see how the replacement they offer goes. i'm hesitant to even get it switched out. i know i will get home and it will end up looking worse. i don't understand why apple has these issues with their screens. i've had about 10 different monitors, and i consistently get mediocre screens from apple. too bad i love the products so much.

Glad to hear you have a good one too mate, lets hope apple get there **** together and get this manufacturing process more standardised... The problems are that every pad has very much its own DNA. That is a dangerous game to play with the public because we all want the best screens possible;) When our pals have a better screen it devalues the product fiscally and emotionally;(

Wow that really is a 1 in a 1,000,000 screen dude, take care of that baby;P Also if your battery or anything goes inside do your best to get it repaired and not exchanged, that really is a rarity;)))

I think the ones that are actually good are faulty because it seems they get it right in what should be a faulty percentile, lol...

Really like my neutral iPad, will always have a tendency for blue hues though;))

LOL, are you serious or are you trolling, cannot tell.

If you are serious, why do you even care? If 3 people with a serious OCD tell you that your screen is yellow, will you exchange it even though you are perfectly happy right now? Question is, are you happy now or do you have us confirm your happiness for you?

If you are that influenced by outside opinion, here is what you have to do to get a perfect screen, 100% guaranteed: Send me a PM, I will reply with my shipping address, you ship me your highly defective unit and I'll make sure to get you a perfect screen in return. I have sources. It just might take a while. So, hurry up, my time is valuable :-D

Hi! I perfectly understand that my posting may seem suspicious to some of you - especially regarding the fact that I signed up here just a few hours ago.
FYI, I'm serious, it was me who took the pics and it is me as well who wants to get a feedback.

Since I didn't have the opportunity to compare my unit to others I simply dunno what I should think,...

When I got my iPad 2 I had to hold back all my gastric fluids in order not to throw up, its screen was SO bad. The iPad 3 didn't make me want to puke, at least.

The problem is: here in Hungary you won't get a new device if your screen is having a minor fault. In Europe (Hungary) customers virtually got no rights. The shop assistants will repeatedly persuade you into keeping yours because "there is no lack, and everything is 100% percent fine". In case you get a bit louder because you're upset they will tell you to get the f out of the store. And they are not forced to take back or refund goods they sold. Once I bought sth. it's my problem to solve all upcoming problems.
Thanks for your offer but sending to the US is a bit too complicated.

So finally all boils down to that I wanted some opinions whether you think I should live with mine or fight for a new one at the "local apple premium reseller" store..

In Hungary there are no Apple Stores.. Only plenty of authorised dealers ..

(ps: originally I'm from Germany.. There it's a lot better concerning customer rights and there I would get a new one without any problems. But I get home max once a year)

Greetings from the commie block,
J.

(Arzt (in German) = Doctor .. Coincidence? ;) )

I called apple technical support today,
the agent confirmed that apple is aware of this issue and that apple wants these iPads back to investigate further;
he said apple will give out replacements for any customers who call in about having a yellow tint on their screen.

Took a trip to apple, returned my yellow tint, iPad Recieved a much brighter non yellow one very happy.
The gave me a retail box.

Okay, I'd like to get this said while we're just a few posts in:

The yellow tint goes away when the digitizer adhesive cures.

If you still have a yellow-ish screen in a week or two, go swap it out at :apple:.

amen to that!

iphone 4s was yellow is at first, now its blue/white!

Not that it is to important anymore. We just bought ipad 2's for my business partners. So I will now be able to take some readings.

They don't all stink. But I'll stop now because you have your mind made up like PC Mag.

Remember, I had 3 iPhones and an iPad so it's not like I have used just Android.

To each their own.

Oh, I see. Because I disagree with you, ....my mind is made up.

Perhaps it's because I used one for several weeks and greatly disliked the experience. Sorry that doesn't jive with your agenda.

Darn

Looks like mine needs to go back now. Above the home button I can see a patch of pixels that are stuck green.

why is there so many differences in opinion to this statement regarding letting the glue dry? some people swear by it, others say there is no glue and say waiting will not do anything?

i went in to the apple store to pick up a smart cover and the guy there asked me which iPad i had and told him the iPad 3. he then asked how is it so far. i said good except for the screen is a bit yellow to my liking...he said to give it time and it will get better. i noticed my yellow screen the first day when i had an iPad 1 to compare against, but now that i don't have anything to compare it to, it seems fine....definitely not as white though. i guess my eyes have adjusted.

so, what's the real story?

I have a bright white dot on my screen that is right above the home button about a inch. It stands out on white screens. Anybody know what this could be?

This is semi-related. I went to Best Buy and tried a couple different Galaxy Tabs (these have Samsung-made PLS panels), and two of them had a warmer tinting on half the panel.

I honestly don't think the warmer color temp is the actual issue here. It's the uniformity of that warmer color temperature.

Exactly.
