I'm after advice on which Carbon Fibre Monopod is best for the money, I want a sub £100 carbon Mono for a Canon 5D mkII with either 24-105 or 70-200mm attached, I tried searching but couldn't find the answer I needed, basically I want something I can sling on my back for long days walking but gives nice steady support, I usually walk over hills/mountains so the tripods a bit clumsy hence a nice light carbon monopod seems ideal, any views on a good head would be nice too, ive already got a 234rc and 496rc manfrotto heads but would like to hear of a simpler alternative too.

thanks ;)

I have the following Manfrotto aluminum monopod

The carbon fiber version is this one

It weighs 0.1 lb less, but costs around $100 USD more.

Gitzo makes a CF monopod, too. It weighs 1.1 lb.

I also have that pan/tilt head you list, but I don't really like it. The only solution simpler is to just mount the camera directly to the monopod.

Edit: This from Mountain Smith might be of interest.

Thanks Designer Dale, had a look around, either looking at Slick or Gitzo, then i'll do some small ballhead research, appreciate the links ;) just needs to fold small to strap it on the side of a small backpack, i'm hopefully going to come from the UK and visit B&H next year if all goes well, thanks.

** update: thanks to Designer Dale I have decided to buy the Manfrotto 694cx, carbon fibre, weighs 590g and will take over from my 1400g manfrotto 680b, the weight saving will be great on long walks, so thanks for your help in helping me make a decision Dale **
