I'm currently running Mountain Lion DP 2, and have noticed a new option when right clicking on video files - Encode Selected Video Files

This brings up a pop up box containing presets (480p, 720p, 1080p, Audio Only etc.). I was wondering if anyone new any more about this, or experimented with it?

It may not even be a new Mountain Lion feature, I could have just been too boneheaded to notice it in Lion. I'll toy around with the feature tomorrow, and see how it compares to Handbrake, etc.

well, I for one don't think it's hidden anywhere in Lion. And I really do hope it gets polished, worked on and kept in the final release version of Mountain Lion!

Please, can you check on which file types does it work? And maybe just try it out on different settings and let us know the results and comparison.

Thanks a lot!

[EDIT:] I've been using my new iPad for over a month now as my primary device... so it's been quite a while since I've 'right-clicked' anything on OS X. obviously that option is already available in Lion, and I didn't know about it, and at the time I posted my reply, I didn't actually try it out... that's why I said "I don't think it's there", I wasn't sure, that's all.
