Good to see they don't have a huge market share because that leaves room for growth = Stock price goes up! :)

Really

S5660, S5830, S5690, S5570 are showing up at 'less than 400' without a contract for me. (Some less than 200)

Those all have higher volumes than the 32gb 4s.

These are phones with 128 mb inernat memory. There are feature phones much better that this.

If this is a smartphone, samsung should just say that all 93 million phone they sold are smartphones.

I know this is off-topic, but why is LTD banned? I don't think I've ever seen him insult a single person. I know his beliefs are to the extreme, but I find it a bit strange that he is banned while those with extreme beliefs on the opposite end aren't banned. Very strange.

Regardless, impressive that Apple is ranking in categories that include dumb phones.

Yeah no idea but he must have said something. Although I have a two hundred person ignore list of people who should probably be banned before him. That being said I think discussing moderation is a no no.

Samsung is a corrupt company and I'm glad Apple is distancing itself from them especially in the supply chain.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-04-17/samsung-head-charged-with-fraud-avoids-arrest/2407266

Your going to be heart broken when you find out samsung is the mfg of all the guts in all of you iphones and ipads, they also just built a new factory in texas to supply Apple with the A6 chip bump up. Apples a long way from ending thier partnerships with samsung any time soon.

Anywhere in the world, you cannot find a Samsung smartphone for less than $400. 400 by 42 million is $16.8 billion. More than the total revenues reported by Samsung for their IM division.

I thought Samsung's IM division had revenue of 23.2 trillion won ~= US$ 20.6 billion. Perhaps different exchange rate. Anyway...

You're mixing up retail and wholesale prices.

How much a phone sells for to the public, is not how much the retailer paid the phone maker.

So, do Mot and HTC not sell anywhere besides the USA? I am always surprised by their showing in the smartphone percents, esp compared to Nokia. Is Nokia bigger in other countries? I almost never see Nokia smartphones here.

What makes these stats even more incredible is the profit Apple makes on each iPhone sale. Others don't come close.

That's the power of Apple's triple play. Clever Marketing, Cult like worshipers spreading "The Word", Insatiable Greed = Obscene Profits & Explosive Sales, Simply Brilliant.

I've used both phones and the difference between a 4S and 4 is negligible. The 4S in the grand scheme of things wasn't a big fail in the market-place because it was an iPhone. However, it's important to realize that the phone "succeeded" due to the infrastructure built up from the Apple brand and the success of the previous iPhones. The 4S in itself was a pretty unremarkable upgrade.

I can guarantee that if Apple continue with one or two more upgrades like the 4S (I know they won't but for arguments sake), they'd get swamped by Android, etc.

I'm curious. What is it you think that android will have in hardware for this year and next besides the quad core that will be leaps and bounds way better than iPad 3 specs. LTE? Bluetooth 4? NFC? They can't even upgrade current phones to ICS which is still <2% of the installed base:cool:

According to what I find: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPad-3-4G-Teardown/8277/1:

"The iPad's new A5X application processor, with improved graphics horsepower, is based on energy-efficient technology licensed from Britain's ARM Holding and is manufactured by Qualcomm, as in past Apple devices."

"The NAND, part number THGVX1G7D2GLA08 is a 16 GB 24 nm MLC Flash from Toshiba"

I'm curious to know what quad core phone or tablet is noticeably better in terms of performance than iPhone 4S or iPad. I keep hearing about how such and such device is quad core but I never hear about the benefits to the end user in terms of over all end user experience. As long as my phone does what I want it to and the UI isn't laggy I could care less how many cores the processor has.

So the 35M who purchased iPhones are members of a cult, or are to stupid to know they're being played by Apple? Yet the 42M or so who purchased Samsung phones aren't? Brilliant logic there.

If Apple follows what they have done in the past, the iPhone 4 will replace the 3GS as the free iPhone. The 3GS will then be retired.

His point was that it is likely that the top 4 phones sold in 2012 will all be iPhones.

iPhone 4S
iPhone 4
iPhone 3GS
iPhone (5?)

The post when read correctly says "cult like".

Stupid is your word, perhaps said from a position of hyper sensitivity.

Actually my post was tongue-in-cheek, an expression you're free to Lookup on Google.

Not all of us, take things so seriously :D

Oh... and by the way? I've got over $20K invested in my late model Macs, iPhones, iPads, Airport Base Station, 3TB Time Capsule, and a vast array of other Apple stuff.

With some luck I just may qualify as cult like

I love how often the availability of choice is somehow a bad thing on these forums.

and how is that bad? its just a different approach, not everyone needs a 300 Euro phone. im not necessarily fond of android or the samsung plastic crap but that doesnt mean their business strategy is bad.

You'll both have to help me here and point out where I said "availability of choice" or Samsung's methods are bad. I was just contrasting Apple's laser-focused approach to product development with Samsung's everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach and pointing out that it's not hard to see why one company makes more money than the other. I didn't express any personal opinion about one or the other but both of you react as if I had. Odd.

so what?

just because it doesnt retail for $649 dollar its automatically a bad phone?

i got my iPhone 4S for 1 Euro here, same price as the Samsung Galaxy Note. doesnt mean either one is worse. it depends on ones needs and what he wants to do with it

You keep confusing posts talking about consumer issues and company issues. Samsung makes less from their phones because of how they price them. Also, their method is basically planning to write off revenue instead of gaining it. From a managerial/accounting perspective, it's a little crazy. It can only work when you continue to have high sales. Just ask Nokia what happens when sales start dipping.

feel free to read over any of these, by the way qualcomm makes the phone chips that give you the ability to send and recieve calls and connect to 3g 4g whatever, the phone part of the iphone, just like broadcomm makes the wireless chip to go online. Samsung makes the A4, A5, A5X, the current retina display, and the nand and ram, the latest ipad has Apple using both samsung and toshiba for nand. Im pretty sure they make the power managing controller chip as well.
