Just ordered this cable that has just been released.
Enables older projectors/Monitors/Plasmas with VGA to play the ATV!

Have been waiting for a cable like this for the longest time, as haven't been able to get ANY apple devices to play nice with my 50" plasma tv.

Costs $69, which is similar price to the HDFury adapter, as they are not just adapters, there is some intensive conversion going on in order to convert signal from digital to analog.

I have a HDfury converter which works fine for PS3 but doesn't like the ATV.
Will give my review of the Kanex ATV Pro as soon as I get it.

Review of Kanex ATV Pro

Thanks! Waiting for the review!

Well received it today after ordering on the 9th May, so for US to UK shipping expect around 14 days, shipped via USPS Priority Mail International. Paid $81/51GBP plus shipping.

As you can see from the picture its a pretty uncomplicated simple little device. Connect the HDMI end into the apple tv, and connect the vga lead from you TV into the opposite end. It also has a phono out which enables you to receive the apple tv sound, by connecting into your tv audio in, or even a separate sound system.

As soon as I connected the leads just like magic, it was showing a perfect 1080p picture on my VGA Plasma Display! Tested different video material and can see no noticeable difference to my other TV which is HDMI.

All in all a simple and effective product. 9/10 (would be 10 if device was priced cheaper)

Thanks that's a good cheap alternative. anything that strips the silly HDCP protection on HDMI is a positive in my book.

Keeping on that subject, my eBay listing for my HDFury, which also strips HDCP is being taken down due to copyright violation by request of the Digital Content Protection, LLC corporation.

Can you believe that!

BTW, guys, did you have a chance to compare the conversion quality of any of these converters to each other - or, for that matter, to one of the following converters?

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hdmi-to-vga-ypbpr-r-l-audio-converter-black-107785

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hdmi-to-vga-ypbpr-spdif-audio-converter-109879 (advertised as HDMI 1.3b compliant but still only goes up to 1080p60 so I'm not entirely sure it's indeed 1.3b compliant)

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hdmi-to-vga-video-converter-71816?item=4 (at Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Converter-Support-1080P-Output/sim/B0057UNQ18/2/ref=pd_cp_e_sexpl ), some people stated it doesn't have the best conversion quality)

Kanex ATV Pro experience

I just had mine delivered from the Apple Online store. Because I don't own a flat screen TV or other HDMI-input display, I am using it with a LCD projector (which I do own).

Anyway, things were working very well for the first couple days (the AirPlay from my iPad to AppleTV was so great!). But now I get these random drops of the video feed from the AppleTV. The projector goes blue screen for 2 seconds then the feed is back. Completely random too. Sometimes as often as 30 seconds. Sometimes as long as 3 minutes. Makes the AppleTV completely unusable.

So my question: is the problem the Kanex or the Apple TV? I have just tried reinstalling (restored to factory settings) the OS on my ATV but that didn't help

I will continue to fiddle with things to see if I can get stable performance again.

When it works, it works very well.

I would ask for a replacement adapter from the apple store, it maybe a faulty one. If replacement does the same, I would say its compatibility issues with the projector

No power, bulky compared to Kanex ATV Pro adapter

Here's a cheaper alternative that may be just as good: http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-VGA-Audio-Video-Converter/dp/B004VJ23PG

I have the component video version of the same thing and it works great.

I like the kanex one better since no external power is needed, this one requires a 5V ac adapter and does not support HDCP, also i like to travel with something compact and not bulky, we use the ATV pro at schools for ipad airplay mirroring and it works like a charm.

Are you sure it doesn't support HDCP? The description states it does.

If it doesn't, the one I've linked to (of appr. the same price) supports it, making e.g. iPads, iPhones etc. play back DRM'ed content over the HDMI converter just fine.
