I have some vidsI once downloaded from you tube a few years ago, but have well and truly forgotten how to do this.

I suppose i used a client of some sort, all long ago.

Anyone know the best way of downloading vids from you tube in 2012, please?

On Safari, try right-clicking the vid and select download. If that's not available, try this.

I am using Google Chrome as my browser and have the "Ultimate YouTube Downloader" extension from the Chrome Web Store. Works flawlessly. Gives you all the available video resolution options for the particular video (up to 1080p) and even offers an MP3 conversion from YouTube videos if you just want the audio. All of this is, of course, free.

Some video sizes like 360 and 480 are in FLV format. But those can be converted into MP4 format with a video converter like Handbrake.

I have found ClickToFlash extension to Safari to work well with this.

Try Mactubes? It's free and available at:

I have found it easier to use than the various extensions available, especially on Camino, my standard browser. Firefox has similar extensions, but why bother when Mactubes just works?
