2012 uses MagSafe 2, which is different than the old MagSafe. There's an adapter...

True ONLY for the Retina models in the 15" series. Non-Retinal "Classic" MPB 15" use the older type MagSafe.
Probably not.Just curious, i plugged my old 2007 magsafe into my new 2012 15" and the notebook sees it but says "not charging"
Probably not.

The Mid-2012 15" retina and non-retina need a 85 watts power adapter. See also:

derp, now the old charger charges it..lol guess i didnt have it plugged in all the way or something
If it's from a MacBook 13" or 13" Pro then it won't have enough power to charge when it's under load as they have a less powerful charger
Unbelievable!derp, now the old charger charges it..lol guess i didnt have it plugged in all the way or something
On my new 2012 Macbook Air with Magsafe 2, the magsafe 2 to magsafe 1 adapter seems to either charge or power but not at the same time. If the macbook air is on, I get a "not charging" error, but it is powered by ac power. If I power the macbook down, it will charge.
Intended behavior or bad adapter?
Interesting. I hope that is NOT the intended behavior. I purchased a couple of the adapters for my extra 85W L shaped plugs and i will be extremely disappointed if that is the case.
I have a genius bar appointment in 1.5 hours. I'll try to post back the results.
The converter I had was defective, and they swapped it for a new one that works fine -- powers and charges at the same time. The apple care tech who told me otherwise wasn't too sharp, apparently.
