Apple Expands Build-to-Order Configuration Options on Retina MacBook Pro [Updated]

Some items in the store aren't selectable. I am trying to buy a new iPad charger and I cant select the thing to order it.

Memory prices have gone up recently all around the world but 100% in 1 day seems very steep

Yeah, this is really what I wanted to read after ordering the top-end model just yesterday, to be able to get the 768GB SSD.
Oh well, at least they haven't lowered any of the prices...yet. If nothing else, at least I have my new rMBP in hand today as I write this post.

I recall news back in December 2011 or Spring 2012 that DRAM prices were going to increase but I have not seen anything significant.
Edit: Well maybe 5-8% but who notices $3-4?

Well it sounds like it would be slightly annoying if somebody wanted to have those options beforehand, but now they just showed up on the website.
That is incorrect.
The RAM is soldered to the MB and not upgradeable.
The SSD is on a card, just like the MBA, using a non-standard pin design. However, as of right now, there are no upgrade options available. But, just like the MBA, there will probably be 3rd party options at some point. Whether they will be reasonably priced is another story...
Working Fine
I use the Apple Education store and everything works fine, even shows up in my cart with the right price and specs. I can actually save $40 and get the same computer just by starting with the low end model.

Pricing Error
After reading that there were more upgrade options for the MBP w Retina, I relooked at my specs. I am an educator, so I got the education discount to begin with on the base high-end model. ($2599). When I speced out the lower end model today to match the one I bought before, it came out to $60 cheaper ($2539). If anyone has the same situation, go to the Apple store like I did and claim your $60. they refunded my card. I bought in store... If you bought online, you can call 1800MYAPPLE. Good Luck!

$1000 to upgrade to 768GB of storage. WOW! And I thought Thunderbolt drives were a freaking thieving rip-off.
No surprise with the pricing
Not really surprised with the pricing.
Most of the cost increase with the 2.6 is the SSD drive. $100 2.6 over the 2.3 makes sense. It's only about a 10% boost, which is basically unnoticeable in use. 2.6 v 2.3 was basically of no interest to me, even for $100.
From the beginning I thought a 2.3 with a 512GB ssd would have been a solid choice. I'd like it a lot better if the SSD wasn't a $500 upgrade though. $400 would be a lot better. At $500, they are basically charging $900 for 512GB storage. You'd think there would be some allowance for the fact you are starting with a 256GB card.
It's a tough sell to say that 1/3 of the price of a rMBP is from storage.
I'd much rather have a 128GB SSD for a boot drive paired with an internal 500MB HDD. I'd get 90% of the performance of an all SSD solution for a fraction of the price, probably around $300.

yeah I have student discount and it's $180+ on the base price, ordered over a month ago
New iMac Speculation
This leads me to think that the new iMac (Sep-Dec 2012 or Jan 2013) will have Flash storage!
This may be in addition to a new to iMac -- Retina display.
Solid State Hard Drives (Flash Storage) is VERY fast. So, this will be awesome for iMac's if Flash Storage becomes standard.
If most users use some form of cloud storage, they do not necessarily need huge hard drives. If all else fails, have a Flash Storage hard drive for primary use, and external drive for rarely used / accessed files.

Well, the rMBP cuts down on glare by 70%, so it's less of an issue than it was. While it would be nice to have a non-glossy option, I think this is a pretty darn good compromise. You get the better looks of the glossy display with fewer of the drawbacks. Honestly, the iMacs give me a headache, but the rMBP just doesn't.
Also, not seeing 13" matte option over here.
