I'm really confused. Last night before the installation of Mountain Lion I had 28GB SSD space available.

Following the install, I have 47GB available? I can't find anything missing, which is odd. Any idea what may cause the discrepancy?

On a side note - World of Warcraft doesn't appear in Launchpad anymore. Any idea how to add Apps to Launchpad? I assumed they were there automatically.

There have been several reports of increases in free space in varying amounts, such as here:
Did anyone else just get a bunch of free space?
Free disk space after upgrade

Where'd this space come from?

Doing a GET INFO on my main drive tells me I have capacity of 199.19 GB; Available: 132.29 GB; Used: 66,901,702,103. THAT'S LOTS MORE DISK SPACE THAN I HAD BEFORE MOUNTAIN LION.

Looking at the parallel stats shown in DISK UTILITY, it tells me I have Capacity of 199.10 GB (ok, they agree!); Available: 69.88 GB (HuH???); Used: 129.31 GB (HuH???) This is what I would have expected, so I'm thinking something is wrong with the reporting of space using GET INFO on the whole hard drive.

I'm using an early-2008 MacBook Pro 17"

Like to hear from others on this same set of statistics.

Space available is larger than disk drive

My MBA has a 256GB drive and after installing ML and doing a bunch of cleanup, I now have 278GB available according to Finder. Disk Utility correctly shows 164GB available and 86GB used...

No, I'm not using any compression software.

Strange...

Hard drive space after Mountain Lion

Anyone found any answer to this issue?
I had 74GB before ML install, now it tells me I have 166GB free.
Disk utilities tells me I have approx 73GB available.

Sheese, if they use too much space, we complain it's bloated, if they give u space back, we say Hey, where the extra stuff go? :D

Don't have answer. I too went from a clean 15G Lion down to now clean 12G ML. Am gonna be optimistic and say the programmers spent some serious time cutting down the blob. Somebody go Apple Support, ask and come back tell us.
