Retina MacBook Pro: no sign of a scroll lag

No lagging or other issues here. I have a 2.6/16/512 running Mountain Lion. I'm pretty sensitive to these things.

so even when You're running only on the intel 512mb gpu You experience no static in the transition between the lunchpad screens with only stock wallpapers on?

I have the 2.3/16/256 Retina Macbook Pro.

I see crazy lagging when using Sublime Text 2 and XCode. Sublime is just a text editor and is scrolling very smooth on my previous Macbook Pro. It seems that if I have the editor window 50% of the screen the lagging is mush less, but when having fullsized it (the best way to work of course) then the lagging is very very annoying.

I would love to hear that this can be solvedwith optimized software, drivers or such. If I scroll through a large web page with only text it is usally not laggy, depening on if the DOM-tree is huge or not it seems. But I dont understand how scrolling in a simple text editor on the latest monster macbook pro laptop is this choppy. I am so surprised that Apple have released it like this.

IMHO when a customer pay's this amount of money for a computer it should be able to handle scrolling in a text document without rendering hassle.

The scrolling lagged before ML and it still lags after ML. My cousin, who works at an Apple Store suggested I get a rMBP (I listened and ended up with a 2.6ghz, 512bg version), but mentioned that there was noticeable lag in scrolling and that he would probably wait until a software fix is found for this before buying. He demo'ed it for me in store and I only kind of saw what he was talking about.

Having owned it for a few week and upgraded to ML for free, I can assure you there is a lag when surfing in Safari. The scrolling is repoonsive and smooth, but the image of the web page hiccups and gets a bit choppy if you scroll fast at all. I can compare this to my 1st gen iPad and see absolutely no lag whatsoever in scrolling on it no matter how fast I scroll, change direction, or start and stop. This was mildly disappointing before ML, but now that ML is out and it did nothing for it I am pretty disappointed. I hope Apple fixes this soon. If they're gonna keep encouraging us to upgrade to their newest products they should perform better than older tech, especially if on paper the are much more powerful compared to said older tech.

EDIT: I just went and tested the rMBP again to make sure my memory was serving me right. The scrolling is actually much smoother than I remember it pre-ML...almost perfect. It does struggle a bit on sites with flash stuff popping up(i.e. yahoo.com with the new stories scrolling by and car ad animations flying across the screen), but otherwise it's butter smooth. I feel better now lol.

Hi, im having a really hard time at Facebook and youtube because of this scroll stutter, and fun fact nr1 when i open my App folder fx. its lagging too. - i have a feeling that its when it gets too hot, because i dont lagg when i start it up, but then maybe 2 hours in, i begins slowly

That site hitches and stutters for me when scrolling up and down with Safari

Works great when using Webkit though no stutter at all.

I have a hunch that this battle of the lag/no lag on the retina will continue until apple refreshes the line with a graphics processor that can do a better job of handling the massive resolution of these screens.

Having said that, here's my 2 cents on what's happening:

I don't own a rMPR, but my buddy does. He doesn't see the lag, I do. I'm guessing that this is either because some people really need to justify such an investment to themselves as 'perfect' (quite possible) OR - and I think this is much more likely - people coming from OLDER machines that had significant lag in lion/ML see a significant reduction in the amount of lag they were accustomed to, and consider what they're seeing as buttery smooth.

I think people coming from 2010/2011 machines are the ones noticing lag. I could be dead wrong though.

I'm coming from a 2008 MacBook and its pretty clear there's more "lag" on my 15" RMBP.

I actually came from a pretty pos HP that was a couple years old. The screen wasn't anything special and I never saw anything lag. The rMBP has a great display for sure, but my sense is the CPU and graphics card us having issue keeping up with processing to fill the screen.

I think I was expecting the thing to perform "buttery smooth" and its the lack of meeting my expectations that Makes it noticeable. This is my first Mac, so I had high expectations given the reputation and price and no bias to speak of in terms if fanboyism.

Like I said in an earlier post, my cousin who has worked for Apple for a few years was the one who pointed it out to me. I probably wouldn't have noticed it, but he put it side by side with the cMBP and it was noticeable then. I can even run a comparison between the iPad 1g I have and the rMBP and notice the latter slightly hitches, hiccups, or lags. It dies look better doing it, though. No biggie. Again, this only happens on graphics rich websites.
