At 100% charge before the 10.8.1 update, battery was reporting 4:05 hours left.

After the update, at 100% charge, the battery is reporting 7:33 hours left.

Not too shabby!:D

Edit: Now reporting 8:13 hours left! I think they slid in that battery fix.

how can you see how many hours you got left?

Apps Store Reall Bad!

Someone please tell me -- Did the App Store just modify my existing 10.8.0 installer on my hard drive and turn it into a 10.8.1 installer.

The 10.8.0 file was deep in a chain of folders and was renamed to something Apple shouldn't have found!

If this is true this is unacceptable behavior. How do I reinstall 10.8.0 if 10.8.1 is a dud? (Of course I have a backup of the 10.8.0 installer, but.)

Yes. It will update your installer to 10.8.1. This was an announced feature. Now if you moved it yourself to a different location, I don't know how that happened.

After a quick download and 1-2 minute installation (on a special screen with the App Store logo and the linen background), my Retina MBP asked for my Apple ID for iCloud. I didn't provide these in the initial setup but did so later. Did this happen to anyone else? It seemed really strange because it appeared as if I were being asked to set up OS X again.

Battery problems fixed! (sort of)
On Retina MBP, battery is changing much more than it did before, but it is reporting better usage times. I saw 8+ hours for the first time, and it has remained between 7:00-8:45 for several minutes. This, however, still seems too unstable to be informative. Perhaps a full cycle will make it more accurate.

I just hopes this fixes the issue where my MBP would lose the 3 finger and 4 finger multi touch gestures capabilities when waking from sleep (not always, but often enough)..

I get this in Lion when fast user switching... (Similar to your experience: not always, but often.)

Wifi so far seems to be working and not dropping connection like it was on 10.8 (just hope I don't jinx it by posting that now ;) )

Are the days of the Combo updates long gone? Is there a 10.8.1 Combo available for download somewhere?

No, if you need to download 'full 10.8.1' then you can do so via the mac store by simply redownloading mountain lion.

Besides at 10mb or thereabouts do you really need a combo update ?

I too am getting the 4.34Gb file of 10.8.1 -- even after I installed the small 10.8.1 update file. Why is this? I do have one idea based on what I've read. Apparently if you have the 10.8.0 installer in your computer, it will be updated to 10.8.1 installer. Could this be the reason? In other words, if I didn't have the installer file in my HDD, Update would not offer me the 4.34Gb file of 10.8.1.

iMessage being able to link phone numbers anyone?

That will be in iOS 6.

iOS 6 is required for that functionality.

Not true. This functionality is in 10.8.2.

It's done per-device, not universally linked to your Apple ID, therefore it needs to be in iOS6 (it is) as well as in Mountain Lion (it is, in 10.8.2).

2 things...

1. I'm glad Apple are still releasing these as standalone downloads, for those of us who have large networks of computers.

2. No update for the 10.8 Server?

My mini running 10.8 with server showed the update. Server is no longer a separate os just an add on component from the MAS

Just done the update... was initially greeted with a Mail App error which was nice but it's all good now. 2009 MBP with 83% battery level and it says 4:14 remaining. Let's see if it achieves that.

Damn! It doesn't fix any of the problems I had after my switch to ML!

1. The icons now load on the right side of the screen instead of the left where they are supposed to.
2. The Recycle Bin has been renamed "Trash"
3. I don't get any of those things from friends now that I used to get. What were they called.....viruses? I think that's it.

If I had know there were all these problems, I never would have stopped using the last operating system! ;)
