Apple Issues Invitations for Media Event on September 12

Well, it's official. It's the iPhone 5; everyone else can shut up about it now.

And where are the people who swore blind it would be called iPhone 6?

I really thought they we're going to call it "the new iPhone". But nothing is confirmed yet, so who knows...

or maybe the iPad mini rumors are wrong and Apple is releasing an iPhone with a 5" screen, their first foray in to the “red hot” phablet market. /sarcasm

Now just issue some new iMacs to the apple store.
Can't wait till the event though since its now official.

WOW! I was sure it was going to be iPhone (new) but now it looks to be iPhone 5 after all.

did they even need to send these out? been known for weeks. could of spent the money on their next lawsuit no?

Well, they didn't call the iPhone 5 'the new iPhone' as that would've been too predictable!

It's a "5" because it's NOT the iteration number, stupid! That way 3GS was #3.

I was starting to worry there a little bit to be honest. No invites where popping anywhere from all the blogs I read ! Finally the official countdown begins !!

It'll be the "New iPhone".

The 5 refers to the new 5" iPod Touch which will be complemented by the 7" "Mini iPad" when it's launched in October.

apples release cycles are pretty near clockwork but then everyone gets all excited like this is surprising

Must admit, after the iPad that comes as a surprise to me.

Not that it matters even remotely, but thought they might be executing a slightly broader naming strategy starting with the iPad.

Maybe to announce 5 items:

New iPhone
iPad mini
Retina iMac
New Mac Pro
Mac Mini or ???

This is unusual for Apple in many ways, most notably how it's going to happen about exactly a week after the Nokia/Windows Phone announcement. Comparisons will be everywhere, and if Apple doesn't deliver on NFC and Wireless charging in a 4.5" device, it will appear as though they're slipping.

And they won't add that much tech to the iPhone 5. Or if they do, color me surprised.
