Apple sends out an OTA update that lowers the life of your battery and slows your device down so you upgrade to the iPhone 5.

Is it normal to need to buy a new battery
Massive battery drain can be tied to location being on constantly, a stuck email in your outbox that keeps trying to send... You have to do some detective work. As others suggest, google for some troubleshooting steps.

Exhibit A. Proof that Apple will always have a healthy customer base.

With iOS 6 GM, I get about 7-9 hours of usage with about 1 day, 5 hours standby. Also, drain your battery once per month (to 0%), then charge it back up. You should be good to go.

Dude, because your phone is getting old. What battery last forever? Common sense should tell you...

Dude, because your phone is getting old. General wear and tear, app crap building up.

Common sense should tell you...

Did you try to do a reset all setting? I had the same problem and did that and my battery was working much better.

My 4S battery is working normal. Do reset all settings or restore phone and set up as new.

And no, erase all settings doesn't erase anything just puts the phone back to factory settings. Erase all content and settings erases everything.

Seriously, my i4 battery has been a champ for the past 2+ years (purchased on release date 6/24/10) and for the first time last night, I lost 15% on standby over 8 or so hours.

I'm a paid developer, so I've had it since June. And for my 4S and my iPad (3) I get far, far better battery life with iOS6. Averages out to 7-9 hours of usage for the 4S, and about 15-20 hours on the iPad. I'll post screens if you'd like to see.
This makes me excited to get iOS6 on my 4S tomorrow. Not that my battery is bad but if you're saying it's better with 6, then hallelujah.
