I'm looking for a progrom for the Mac that is good for sampling music and manipulating, beatmatching, creating my own tracks ... sort of like doing samples on Acid Pro for PC. What's the best program for Mac?

Garage Band kind of blows when it comes to sampling music and putting tracks together. I just spent $269 on Soundtrack Pro, but I'm SCARED to open the box, because I don't think this is what I want. IS IT??? I love editting movies, too, so maybe this will come in handy - but what are its pros and cons?

So: I'm looking for something similar to Acid. Anyone out there know?

Thanks!

Hhmmm ... I'll investigate ... although, I AM more comfortable with programs designed by Mac FOR Mac.

What about Logic? I just saw that that program is a whopping $999 on line ... YIKES!

I just want to have fun like you can on Acid. I'm not looking to record the new Jay Z track or any big band style recordings. But I do want SOME quality. And beatmapping, sampling, looping, pitch adjustments ....

So is there anything out there? Is Soundtrack Pro the way to go? Or have I not fully explored Garage Band? I've found it difficult when you're just working with samples.

Or Logic or WHAT?

Thanks!!!!

Please check out logic express- I have had nothing but good results from using it- same $ as Soundtrack Pro (I don't think this is what you want, personally).

Good quality
[fairly] easy to use
high sampling rates
uses GB instruments/songs
Good Software for the buck... :)

I too had this question right after I made the switch (about 3 months ago). currently I'm in the pro video/audio business and use Pro Tools and Soundtrack Pro. Believe it or not, I also use GarageBand from time to time. GarageBand is very similar to Acid (looped based material). I've used Acid and Sound Forge before making the switch. I still have a little difficulty understanding everything that I've converted to, but it sure is a lot of fun learning. I really like the beatmapping tool in Acid though.

Dude, listen to mothertongue...check out Ableton Live. It is basically acid pro but much better, especially with a new version coming out.

Definitely look at Ableton Live. Extremely innovative and well designed application.

And its not just us that think so, look at the press reviews of it.... Product of the year etc.

Thanks everyone .... I was quite hesitant to try Abelton - I had a feeling there were Abelton reps scoping this site trying to promote their product. So I stopped in that Apple Store in NYC yesterday and the "music guy" there sang the praises of Ableton (Abelton??), too. So THANKS! I should have listened to you guys in the first place!!! I REALLY appreciate your help.

Can Ableton read an Acid Pro 7 project directly? I'm looking for a mac DAW that can do so. Otherwise, it will be going from almost scratch.
