I thought iOS would include government and amber alerts in the notifications settings? Wonder if Apple decided to drop this feature...

I hope Apple never includes them. I'm not interested in getting bothered by government. The best intentions always end up with junk.

Thanks. Per your cNET article, it looks to be a carrier-specific thing:

"Consumers wondering if their phones can access the emergency alert system can check with their wireless carrier, or look up "wireless emergency alerts" on carrier Web sites."

Like someone mentioned they are carrier specific. I've read that all 3 major US carriers will have them at some point. Verizon seems to be the first.
My phone ATT does not have the option nor has it in any beta.

[To clarify, we both had iOS 6 running for a few months now.]

My Uncle has Verizon and I have AT&T.

He was warned about a Tornado in the area and I wasn't.

Guess who got stuck in the Torando.

Damn AT&T and not letting these government warnings.

Just upgraded to ios6 on Verizon. I don't see that option any where. Are there some settings that we failed to notice?
