Some of us would like an extra for the car and office but not at the prices Apple is charging for them.
Hmmmm.....Your signature states you own 2 Macs and 3 iOS devices....I'm sure you can afford an extra cable....

Apple should have had Lightning accessories like car chargers ready at the launch of the iPhone5. It's bad enough that they made this connector change to begin with, the technical rationale for doing so notwithstanding. They were irresponsible in not having appropriate Lightning connector accessories to replace the old style accessories at launch.
5 demerits for Apple on this one.
And reversed-engineered there lockout chip, huh?
But then Samsung would sue Apple over "copying" them.......
Actually I did Have you not heard of the process of soldering?

All this nonsense and they could have just used microusb with MHL support and had all the functions this new dock connector has.
Cool, but dumb question: was there a need for a skinny long cable or could you have just brought a USB extension cable?
Amen.
Seems like this would be a lot cheaper and easier to make.

I just want a cheap recharge/power only cable!
I just want a unique cable which changes the charging paradigm for the better and I'm willing to personally invest endless funds into seeing this proprietary item come to fruition! Please make this next connector a game changer and please artificially lock the product so that we have to pay your questionable markups as there is no other alternative.

LOL.... I fail to see the benefit vs getting a USB male-to-female extension cable.
Why buy an extension if I have spools of USB cable already?

HOWEVER, locking the new connector down so much is strange to me. To require companies to use specific factories to build accessories? What is the benefit to the customer or benefit to the business (aside from making people pay $29 for a first party adaptor)? I just don't get it
