OP, by this, "I ordered 32GB black iPhone 5 for Verizon at no contract full retail price through the Apple Online Store. I changed my mind and decided I wanted a white iPhone. "

do you mean you went thru the "'Replace a phone on my account with a new iPhone" and apple does not allow this now?

No. I returned black iPhone. And conducted a brand new transaction to acquire a white one.

----------

Update: I picked up my 10 PM last night reservation no contract full retail price Verizon iPhone today. The Apple Retail Store Specialist said the Apple Online Store should not have permitted this transaction. Nonetheless, my iPhone was placed on reservation and quickly brought down to me.

On EasyPay, I still had to sign a contract, but when I checked my Verizon account online, my original two year contract date (when I purchased iPhone 4S) was still in effect.

Which Apple store did you go? I'm planning to purchase iphone5 for retail online and I'm here in New Jersey I hope they will have something available after the hurricane Sandy. So you got yours with no contract?

Why would you want to buy s no contract iPhone? What will be the difference if you are in a contract or none contract?

Depends on what the average monthly data usage is. On Verizon, if one plans on using 4GB or more per month, they're better off paying full retail and keeping unlimited. It's really not that big a deal. Selling the old phone offsets a portion of the cost.

what do you mean 'no contract full retail price' phone? did you do this by 'Replace a phone on my account with a new iPhone' or another way?

i'm freaking out a bit because i lost my iphone 5 and i'm worried that i can't buy another one because of this new change, but that would be really stupid since i'll still go through my verizon account and pay full price.

thx

I returned at Apple Retail Store - San Francisco, Stonestown. I was about to make an Apple Online Store 10 PM next day pickup reservation at Apple Retail Store - San Francisco, Chestnut.

I bought a white Verizon 16 GB iPhone 5 and made my 10 PM next day pickup reservation on the Apple Online Store by selecting "Replace a phone on my account with a new iPhone" then choosing the in store pickup option. Good luck!

1) Is it still possible to buy a full-price phone directly from Verizon? If so, how do I get apple care?

2) Since I'm in the middle of a contract with Verizon, is it possible for me to buy a full-price phone directly from Apple?

got it, but why did the salesman say the online apple store shouldn't have allowed this transaction? why can't you buy another phone at full price if you use an existing verizon account? in my case, i lost my phone and i shouldn't be able to buy another one at full price?

I'm not sure why. I was told that Sprint and Verizon are both forcing Apple to only sell devices with new two-year agreements at that respective pricing level. Earlier in the thread, someone indicated that this might have to do with limited quantities and/or the recent in climate weather conditions on the east coast. I'm really not sure why.

I believe you can purchase from Verizon at month to month full retail price. Purchase AppleCare+ within 30 days from Apple and visit the Genius Bar to complete your AppleCare+ purchase.

I was able to purchase with no contract month to month full retail pricing by making a 10 PM next day reservation on the Apple Online Store for pickup at an Apple Retail Store. The retail store told me that the online store shouldn't have allowed for this, but the transaction went through anyway. YMMV.

I waited for 10PM to try ordering in online applestore, I tried refreshing the page several times but I didn't get the option of getting the iphone5 without commitment. :( Is that option only shown if you have an existing verizon/sprint/at&t account?

PS: I do not have any of those accounts, is it still possible for me to purchase iphone5 without contract?

After I selected iPhone capacity, I selected Verizon and entered my account information. From there, I was given the option to only purchase at full price. I'm not sure where else you can purchase iPhone without any account: maybe BestBuy or through AT&T/Verizon/Sprint directly.

Do the Apple Stores still not sell off contract Vzw iphones at full retail price without giving them an account number?

I don't believe so. To make my in store pickup reservation, I had to enter my cellular number and verify account eligibility with my zip code and Verizon online account login and password credentials.

Good luck!

Just brought mine at the Santa Monica Apple store. Went in, asked if they had one and brought it off contract. Didnt ask for any of my verizon information.

It sounds like Apple has restarted sales of no contract/full retail price iPhone 5 for Verizon. (I assume they sold you Verizon iPhone 5 and not GSM unlocked iPhone 5.)

Never had an issue buying off contract. Just had to reserve using account info, return it when you pick it up at the store to cancel account changes then buy no contract. Did that with several Verizon phones, can't comment on others.

My company pays the monthly on either Verizon or AT&T, but I need to buy my own device at full unlocked price, which I'm happy to do. I'm thinking of going with Verizon, but I can't figure out how to buy a Vzw iPhone 5 without entering account info (which I don't have access to since it's my company's account). Can it be done?

I ordered 32GB black iPhone 5 for Verizon at no contract full retail price through the Apple Online Store. I changed my mind and decided I wanted a white iPhone.

I went to the Apple Store to return the phone today and learned the 30 day return policy only applied to iPhones that were purchased on contract. Apple kindly waived the 14 day return policy on my no contract full retail price iPhone and made the return to a Gift Card, which I requested since I intended to buy a no contract full retail price iPhone through Apple.

I called another Apple Retail Store to check stock on white iPhone 5 for Verizon and learned that as of today, Sprint and Verizon will not allow Apple to sell no contract full retail price both on the Apple Online Store and in Apple Retail Stores. I'm not sure if this now also applies to AT&T / GSM phones.

I went back to the Apple Store I visited and spoke with the floor manager who assisted my original transaction. He completely understood and spoke with his senior manager in the back. They could cancel the gift card, but they had trouble canceling the original transaction to my original charge card method of payment. They were kind enough to give me cash so that I could purchase my no contract full retail price iPhone elsewhere.

Long story short: Apple was very kind despite this huge change in their ability to sell no contract full retail price iPhone 5... As a Verizon user who desires to retail my unlimited data plan, this is damming. I'll have to purchase through Verizon or Best Buy or another outlet that can sell the device for no contract full retail price.

Go to Walmart. They sold me a Verizon iPhone 5 at full price no questions ask. I have AT&T and they didn't ask for a phone number or anything. Just paid and walked out. They do charge 699.00 but they price match if you bring in a printed ad. I took in an ad from att.com and got it for 649.00

I thought I'd bring this post forward since iPhone 5s and 5c have both been announced. I fear that full price / month to month / unsubsidized iPhone will only be available for purchase directly from the carriers, not Apple. If anyone hears information from Apple Retail regarding availability of 5s on 9/20 at 8 AM, please share kindly. Thanks.
