I think Apple has said that camera makers are responsible for building plugins (or whatever) so their codecs/formats will work in FCP X.

RED had a workaround for a long time but Apple officially "added" support in 10.0.6....FCP 6 and the earlier versions were used heavily in early RED demo's so I don't think RED would slack on making a plugin...especially this late in the game. I think I heard what you said as well but it still doesn't pan out to me...

One thing that has improved in 10.0.6 is the text tool and inspector, it's finally usable because it doesn't lag like crazy

My list:

1. Re-instate "Batch Export" of sequences.
I agree. I often have to do this and really miss this feature. In a couple of weeks, I've got a project soon that is 10 1.5hr sequences with short turnaround. I'd like to batch 'em out overnight. For now, I'll just have to see how well the background exporting works.

2. Allow multiple tabbed sequences to be open at any given time. (All other NLE's have this).
Premiere doesn't allow more than one project open at a time which is a drag. I've never done multiple sequences with it like I would do in FCP Legacy. Does it tab them the same way?

With FCPX, you can click and hold on the back/forward arrows and it will drop down a list of your recent "projects"/sequences in order. Not as handy as tabs, but there.

3. Undo history and/or versioning made simpler.
Agreed.

4. Raw support for Arri/Sony/Canon etc.
As others have mentioned, this is something they're handing off to the manufacturers, though I suspect they're working with them at least somewhat.

5. SCROLLING TIMELINE!!!!
agreed.

6. Ability to turn off magnetic timeline, i.e. disabling snap to the left.
I hope you're not fighting against the very existence of the magnetic timeline because you'll lose that one. Apple isn't dumping it. If you mean on a temporary basis, there's the position tool (P). Many pixels have been spent on the Creative Cow forums on this topic, including workarounds/alternative workflows.

10.0.6 was a huge update and it resolved many of my basic feature requests. There are others, certainly, but I'm overall pleased.

For 10.0.6 you still need to download software from RED.

Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6: Importing RED Media
You can import and work with REDCODE RAW (R3D) files in Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6 and later. In order for Final Cut Pro X to recognize the R3D RAW files, you must download and install software provided by RED.

A few years ago Apple and RED struck up a partnership that gave Apple 1 year of exclusivity to the RED post workflow (no one else could work with RED files natively). Apple basically nothing with it. Nadda, zip, zilch. After that window ended Adobe and Avid quickly added RED support and Apple went from having an exclusive window to being behind Adobe and Avid in terms of RED workflow. FWIW RED recently announced an official RED workstation built by HP.

Old post but go on the creative cow and state that LOL.

Creative Cow... I used to be a sponsored contributor for (for multiple applications) is a shell of what it used to be. It's a bunch of fanboi holier than though industry "pros" that shame people on things they are "specialists" at. I'm sure if you go on the motion forum, there will be a bunch of reruns claiming it is as good as AE. I'll continue to work in the professional industry where not one single post house in Boston has converted to it. Thanks.

I'm glad you like it... but it's crap.
