The Fire HD and Nexus 7 are comparably sized and cost significantly less, and they are not knockoffs - the opposite is true. The iPad Mini is on the market because of those devices (or, really, because of the original Fire).
No. That's trumped up BS. Apple was planning the mini long ago before the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 came. People underestimate the amount of time it takes a product to go from design to manufacturing. Something like the mini is going to take over a year.

Yes and despite costing significantly less the mini sold out in most areas and now we know that 3 million were sold over three days. iPad 4th gen is still in stock in many stores. Mini isn't so it's logical to conclude that a majority sold were mini
