today I upgraded to iOS 6.
I wanted to get my caller ID synced from my phone to my iMac, so I logged out from my apple id in iMessage and Facetime and now I can't login again. I get this message: "The user name or password for "myemail@yahoo.com" was inorrect. Try again."
I'm sure that I'm entering the right Apple ID and password. It's only not working for iMessage and FaceTime. I was able to login using the same ID into App store and iCloud.
I tried to even erase every thing on my iPhone and iPad and restore to original settings and still no luck.

Help please.

If you're 100% sure your ID & password are correct and a reset/restore didn't help, you may need to call Apple and have them check your account.

I'm 100% sure that both the ID and the password are correct. Is it possible to get assist on the issue from apple for free?

Im having the same problem as well. Started happening about 45 min ago. When I check my mail as well, it says it can't connect to the server. Basically any connection that runs through apple on my phone isn't working at the moment. Everything else, such as safari and such, is working fine.

I think I solved mine.

I had originally changed the date per the MacRumors suggestion to get the passbook part of the app store working.

I just set the date back to today, and everything seems to be working normally now.

Anyone else have this problem an dfixed it?

just talked to apple, we spent over an hour troubleshooting on the phone and they said they haven't seen such an issue for a while. At the end they said that they have to talk to the FaceTime & iMessage server guys.

iCloud settings will not accept my password, even though I have double checked it and know it to be working for other iTunes account related activity.

Yes, if you go to an Apple Store, they should be able to help you.

Apple Store employees have no special access to iTunes/iCloud accounts. You have to call Apple Care or use online support in order to get in touch with the Apple ID support people. Unless the problem is an incorrect setting on your device, the most a retail employee can do is show you how to reset your password at http://iforgot.apple.com

Did you do an iCloud restore? I initially tried that and it didn't work. Because I occasionally made iTunes backups I was able to restore my iPhone 3GS and iPad 2 using older backups; this got iMessage and FaceTime working again.

I noticed that all my backups - iTunes and iCloud - made on the 19th and after didn't help with this iMessage/Factime problem.

iPad Mini

I am facing the same problem on my iPad mini. the apple id wont' work with FaceTime nor iMessage...works with everything else.. even FaceTime and iMessage on my MacBook and iPhone 4S.

I did a restore...no success...even reset the whole thing...doesn't work.

I used another apple ID it logs in, but FaceTime and iMessage do not function..!!!

I am using iOS 6.0.1

nothing, still not working and apple didn't call me back.

Same exact thing happening to me!! Mac Pro Desktop. I called AppleCare and paid $19.00 for a single incident. Wasted a lot of time on the phone and then they had me email my logs to a specialist (?) still waiting for a call back. It's been one week!!! Calling them back tomorrow morning!!

This might help.

Make sure that Time & Date ( In Settings-General ) are on automatic.

In Settings-Privacy-Locations-System Service ( All the way down ),make sure Define Time Zone is on.

It worked for me after pulling out a lot of hair ;-)))

iMessage and FaceTime not working

OK I have the same problem on a iPad 4th gen that I just bought on Saturday, this is what I have tried:First of all everything else that needs my Apple ID works fine and works on my 4s. I made sure I was typing correctly. Next I wiped the the new iPad clean and started over. Next I went to Apple iforgot. site and changed my password. Then I went back to the geniuses at the store where I bought it. He had me go through all of the above. He then brought out an iPad 3 and had my sign onto it with my ID, both worked fine, same thing with a MBP, all fine. He had me try signing onto a mini, one of the stores iPad 4 and his iPhone 5, all no go. Then he dumped all of the software and reloaded, again no go. At that point he gave up. I made an appointment with Apple support; so far I have talked to two different people with no luck. The second guy had me go back to the iforgot site and change my password again (that was on Tuesday). Still no. Today I have a call into him directly and waiting to hear back.

Having the same problem here. I have a brand new iPad and have tried restoring it back to factory settings as prescribed by Apple Support but with no luck. I've always used iMessage and Facetime using my mobile number on my iPhone 4, so tried to see if I could use my apple id on there too but get the same 'password not recognised' error. It's obviously nothing to do with the devices or the operating system so must be something adrift with the accounts - I'm using the same Apple ID for iTunes and AppStore without any issue at all. Even tried changing my password but that hasn't helped either.

I've got my 3rd support call attempt tomorrow - I'm getting a bit sick of spending ages restoring, rebooting, troubleshooting, trawling websites for information for something that really should work out the box.
