No. First it reduces resale value and second I would never see since i have it in a case. So reducing resale value with something I will see is just plain stupid.

New apple smart covers with integrated back can be engraved if bought from Apple store online, seems better to have an engraved case than the device.

Mine says, "Call my Ishmael" My dad's favorite quote.
Since I don't sell stuff too often, it doesn't matter...

Also, the most important point is that out of the millions of iPads sold, mine is, at least, slightly different from the other iPads...

You mean "Call me Ishmael". The first line of that great literature, "Moby Dick".

it reduces resale value. Plus it is not like a ring that you will keep forever.

Yep, typical usage-span (the time that I'll be keeping it before moving onto the next best thing) for these kinds of toys are 2-3 years tops. Probably, it's less than typical batteries reach its 1000 times limit.

I won my iPad2 from Forevermark/HydePark jewelers.
My iPad2 and leather smartcover are engraved with Forevermark and logo.
It's cool with me :)

I had my name and address engraved on mine as I thought it would help if it got lost or stolen.

Unfortunately I moved and when I tried to sell it was told by a potential buyer also called Paul Houseman that I should have got the back engraved and not the front.

How did you engrave the front of your iPad.

I disagree at the reduced resale value opinion based on what the engraving states.

If you have your name or similar, sure, it will hurt the resale. If you have a funny quote or something that is not truly personalized, someone will buy it at your price if that price is fair market value with those not engraved.

I had no trouble selling one of my iPads that had, "Batteries Not Included" engraved.

It is about finding the right buyer willing to see your humor/thoughts.
