I have a mid 2010 27" iMac. I noticed whilst browsing the internet that there are lines of dots moving up my screen so I set the background to a sold colour and took the following video (be sure to watch in 1080p otherwise it's just a blur):

As you can see, the dots move up the screen. There are 4 lines of equally spaced dots, then no lines, then 4 more etc. all the way across the screen. Has anyone ever heard of this problem before?

It is likely a video card issue but it could very well be screen issue. Did you purchase AppleCare for the computer? If so, take it to a local Apple store and see what they say.

Yeah, luckily it's covered by Apple care until next July. I will give Apple a call tomorrow but I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this issue. It's an effort to get it to an Apple store but I have to get the hard drive switched out under the replacement program anyway so I guess i'll do them at the same time!

I have seen this type of issue before

But it is a little different from your issue since for this person it was happening at boot and is quite visible.

Incase anyone is interested, as obsoletepower thought, Apple say it's probably an issue with the graphics card. They're gonna switch it out and put the new HD in at the same time.
