I will be getting the iMac 21.5 when it comes out (hopefully soon!) and was planning on getting a second monitor to set up with it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good one that would compliment it??

Same.

Apparently this used the same panel as the 2011 model - http://www.dell.com/ae/business/p/dell-u2211h/pd

They probably have new panels now, and that monitor doesn't seem to be sold anymore. I'm gonna ask again once the iMac is out/torn down so we can get more info.

Never thought I'd do this on MacRumors ...

bump.

Eh?

Dell makes excellent LCD screens, as long as you get an ULTRASHARP model (which obviously costs a little more than the regular versions). I have a 30" Ultrasharp I got a few years ago and it still works perfectly—no issues with fading, or color calibration. At the time, it was almost half the cost of the Apple 30" LCD.

It depends on what you want to do with the iMac. Are you a photographer or video editor? What budget are you on. Nobody can answer your question without more information. If it was me I'd go for
NEC Spectaview Reference (size dependent on budget)
Eizo CG range
ACD
Dell Ultrasharp

Damn I thought this was my thread for a second! I made the exact same question only a couple of days ago.

I guess I might as well just use this.

I do video editing, but I'm looking for a monitor that matches the iMacs as close as possible. Would be best if I could get a monitor with the exact same panel.

It would be awesome if Apple released a matching 21.5" and 27" monitors to pair up with the iMac. Also, this would give Mini owners something else to consider. I'd save up for one that's for sure.

The problem is resolution (1920 x 1080), the 21" iMac will be higher resolution and much brighter. When you put this side by side with an iMac the Apple screen makes all others look like a cheap imposter. I have a 24" LG Widescreen HD monitor next to my 27" mid 2010 iMac and the difference is very noticible. The only monitor I found that looks good next to an iMac is the apple displays and they are rather over priced at $1000 IMO.

I will use it for video editing, photoshop, live streaming, etc. (I am a YouTuber http://www.youtube.com/stonemountain64)

I am getting the 21.5 imac and would prefer a 21.5 second monitor as well just to watch videos on or pull up information of photos for photoshop. Also to keep twitter and chat windows open while livestreaming on. Budget $100-250

Just wanted to know if anyone had one they really loved that looked good next to the iMac and had good quality, or any recommendations

I use HP 2311's either side of my 2009 iMac 27". One is connected to my iMac as my iMac only has one displayport. The other is connected to my Mac Mini. The displays are reasonably good and definitely good value. They do them in smaller sizes. The other thing I like about them is that they have VGA, DVI and HDMI connections so I have a few things connected up to them and easy to switch between inputs.

Can't wait to get a new iMac 27" and both will then be connected up via the Thunderbolt ports :)

I am not sure how the connectivity works yet, you said thunderbolt is what you will use? Is there a specific input I should be looking for on the monitor i purchase? (DVI, thunderbolt, HDMI) Which is the best or does it matter?

From the first link, I like this one the most - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&sku=320-9802

It's cheap and seems to have the necessary ports.

But I'm waiting to find out the actual panel of the iMac, then I'll think about monitors. Maybe I'll be able to get one with the same panel.

Hehe, compliment. "Wow, you're so nice, iMac. That's some great colours you have there. Gosh, you're so fast! I wish I were more like you."

Sorry, couldn't resist.

seconded, and i would reckon because they have the same features as the monitor you saw on amazon, and as a plus they are a good choice for mac monitors because of the quality :D

Get a Mini, and combine it with 1 or 2 Eizo Foris 2333 displays. They are better than the built in one already, and the combination is cheaper and faster.
