Battery life is awesome. I don't understand why lots of people think that it only lasts 6/7 hours. On 50% brightness, you get 10+ hours of usage easily.

Just wanted to make this clear to those who are in doubt between mini and retina.

Which is the reason the retina ipads weight twice as much as the mini. The battery required to achieve those numbers is HUGE!

True, but for two handed use the retina iPad weight is ok. I fully acknowledge the advantages and attractiveness of the iPad mini, but battery life on both iPads is great. I mean, who actually uses an iPad 10 hours a day...? If you charge it overnight, you've got plenty of battery life on all iPads, no matter what.

Actually, the 10+ hours of battery life on all ipads is a key feature. You can use it all day without having to charge it, and only charge it once overnight. I've run down the battery several times by 6pm, especially when playing games and/or watching movies. Anything less than the current battery life would be a big step back.

The battery life is amazing. I never worry about getting low and I don't have to charge often. I often wonder why I waited so long to get an ipad.

Yeah my ipad 4 is at 62% right now. 6.5 hours of use and 12.5 standby. I'm not going to charge it until it dies to see how long it will go. This is the 32gb Verizon version. I've been using wifi and LTE all day. Watching Netflix, playing angry birds Star Wars, YouTube, web browsing, and emails. Definitely better than my ipad 3.

madness, I have the brightness very high at 90% and I get around 8 hours. Are you sure that's really accurate 16 hours? my mates ipad tends to say its being used when it isn't so it racks up the hours...

Are you talking about Stand by time? Usage of 18-22 hours per one charge is impossible unless u didn't connect to wifi.

Nope, that's usage time. I'm sure some of that time is with the screen off, streaming music, etc. but who cares? A laptop can't do that with reasonable battery life.

This is one proof I've posted here - since then it has just gotten better. Last charge was 22 hours use, nearly 4 days of standby and 15% left when I charged it.

Screen off will do it as the retina screen demands huge power. Scaling down the brightness can increase the battery life quite a bit. It uses very little power with the screen off as well. So it's not impossible to get 18 hours, it's not likely and not really using it as designed, but definitely possible.

I concur with others statements of 12+ hours battery life on iPad 4. This is from a full topped off charge, backlight on 50% except for about 1 hour of usage in the dark with backlight at 1%.

Notice my current charge amount left.
