2.1 amps x 5 volts = 10.5 watts. The choice is yours.:) This is assuming there are NO other devices plugged in and charging at the same time.

Well, at this point there's only 1 iPad 4 to be charged, but also a host of other apple products ... ipad 2, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S. I would ultimately like a charger that can work at full capacity with both usb ports in use.

I'm wondering if this one is a better choice...

but this review of it sort of threw me...

any thoughts?

It also has 10 watts max....so if you have to devices plugged in they are going to each get 5

So from what I can tell, at this point there's no way for an iPad 3 or 4 to charge quickly at the same time with other device on any usb type wall unit or duel chargers that are currently available. It looks like it always has to be by itself.

Just snag a second Power Adapter and you could charge 2 at a time.

I don't think any of the current USB wall units are designed to push that much power.

Well, the main purpose for me getting this is to be able to have the wall outlets in the kitchen as well as being able to charge a couple of devices without having to hunt down adaptors.

Man, that's a great price.

Yep its usually a few dollars more but looks like they are on sale.

there are these: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/PWR2USB/

but unfortunately like the other ones only puts out a max of 10 watts to both its USB ports. So you could charge two smartphones simultaneously but the ipad would either have to be plugged in with its power adapter or the only device charging via USB when its hooked up.

If I were you, I'd just replace a couple of my outlets with something like this and call it day. While you can't charge 2 very fast on one, you could charge each of them on their own outlet.

Does Monoprice sell anything like the Levitron outlet that HomeDepot has? Those look good but I don't want to shell out $20 for an outlet.

Really? How much does a decent power adapter cost, let alone one that is built into an outlet? What would a generic one cost? $10? I'd think long and hard about how important saving $10 is on an electrical device that is going to be permanently installed in the wall of my home.

As it turns out that the wall outlet that OWC sells is cheaper than an extra brick from Apple.

I ended up going with this...

The only real problem I have with replacing the wall plate is that this particular one is dug into a tile in the kitchen and it rather narrow. From what I've read, there can be issues with these wall plates and depth/size of the box. It's just easier to plug this in and not have to deal with it.
