Hey Folks,

This is not for everyone, so for those it's not for, just skip on by - no harm no foul.

But for folk that are interested, a month ago I almost drove down to my local Apple Store to pick up a rMBP. What stopped me was the fact there was even a hint of a panel lottery between Samsung and LG. If I'm going to pay this much money for something that has a 50/50 shot of coming with a defect, that is just silly and not acceptable by any means.

It's really odd that Apple can just sell these with defects (obviously not all of them, or maybe they are and people just don't know or just deal with it, because it's Apple).

For those of you on the fence, just wait, do not by a first generation Apple product like this. I was in the need of a new laptop, my main machine is a PC but I've ran into the need to have OSX on a frequent basis. So instead of the rMBP I found an awesome late 2011 17" MBP. I'm using it as my main machine now because it's Sandy Bridge processor is way faster then my main PC i7-930.

I say wait on the rMBP because of the screen issues (IR is totally unacceptable) and Intel's Haswell architecture is coming out next year and it's performance increase will be quite large, since it will be a tock and not a tick in performance, google those terms for more info.

I upgraded my 17" I got off Craigslist and put an SSD in and 16 gigs of ram. The 15" rMBP is marginally faster, also the 650m graphics card in the rMBP is nice, but I don't play games on the laptop - I leave that to the PC with the 30" monitor and a 680gtx.

So wait, get off the fence, don't buy. Get a late 2011 model, you won't notice hardly any differences except you won't have retina ... big deal IMO.

This comes from a person is not an Apple lover/fanboy or a hater, I generally dislike Apple more then like them, FYI ;)

...okay, fair enough...but at least you clarified that your dislike of apple doesn't make you a hater..lol

You're right, it may be prudent in many cases to get in with later production runs but I'm not as disciplined as you. My experience with my rMBP has been A1 and I love it.

I bought it for the thin form factor and portability now I'm a retina snob, so be warned that everything else will look a little fuzzy after you use it for a while (which is honestly a little disappointing - but I can't really figure out how that can be a complaint).

What absolute cockwomblery. For the majority of people the rMBP has been absolutely fine even those with LG screens. The fact that you chose not to doesn't make you an authority on the IR issue.

Delighted you got a machine that suited your needs though, I really am.

Just another thread of a person that doesn't or hasn't owned a rmbp saying not to buy one, nothing new.

That is uncalled for calling someone a fool for not buying this so called MacBook Pro with a fancy screen. Havent you seen all the complaints here with people having screen issues with the Retina? Even Apple's forum as the same thing! So are you saying they are fools too? Or you just saying that nothing is wrong with it that its all in there heads?

A fool for thinking the stats were 50/50, not a fool for not buying it. Reading and comprehension.

Also, the performance increase on Haswell is around 10%... It's the onboard graphics that will benefit with an almost double speed increase. This would be good in a refreshed 13" rMBP, unless they decide to give it dedicated graphics.

MORE rMBPs for the rest of us! Good, no one is begging you to buy a rMBP them on these forums, so thanks for sharing, but honestly, no thanks. I for one have never experienced any problems with my LG rMBP besides maybe diminished shadow definition due to the lack of true blacks

Ah I'm a troll, a fool and probably something else negative.

O'well - for those of you this helped, glad to have helped to rethink your purchase. ;)

I decided to pass on the first rMbp as well, but mostly because my current 2009 C2D MBP is still getting the job done and hasn't slowed down. So I can afford to wait for the second revision.

The OP came off as a troll. It's easier and better to praise how happy you are about the 17 only vs putting the 15 rMBP down.

The reality is the 15 rMBP is the fastest and for some, the best Macbook out there.

End of argument. Game, set, match.

I was on a same boat until my 2009 went through 4 repairs and kept coming back with a new problem.

I am glad I bought it from ABT. They gave me money back for my 2009 C2D MBP and was able to purchase rMBP with little bit more money :) It is not like I will purchase MBP every year or so, why not get the latest and the best for what my money can buy?

I am absolutely happy with it without any noticeable issues.

Hi, Folks,

Last week i saw this gorgeous hot lady in the mall. I thought about asking her out and perhaps getting laid that night. But I didn't do that at the end, and I am super glad that I did not do that. I thought about the money I will have to spend on dinner with her. And possible getting STD, which I will regret for the rest of my life.

Instead, I went home and watch some free online porn and masterbated. Yeah sure, you might say I don't get to feel real boobs with my hands. BUT, I don't think that's a big deal, IMO.

FYI: I am not gay, and I am not impotent. (I am not fascinator, I am masterbater.)

Who do you think will be producing the displays for next years 15" rmbp?

So, basically, you're urging people away from a product you've never tried, refuse to give a chance to, and assume things on based on Macrumors posts?

I love my rmbp, best computer I've ever used.

OP sounds like he's "giving an advice" more to convince himself he did the right choice more than anything.

You apparently don't know what owning the rMBP is like and didn't buy it for a reason that doesn't affect the majority of rMBP owners who don't have any screen problem.

Some pretty funny posts here ;)

My post was not posted here for even the majority of you who posted on this thread. And no where did I say the 17" MBP was better then the 15" rMBP, the 15" is totally superior.

I don't know what owning a rMBP is like, but it's probably a lot like owning the MBP I have now but somewhat faster, a higher resolution pretty screen (if you get a good one), lighter and physically smaller.

This post was meant for the folk exactly like me, maybe they don't post here, but they read here (just like I did and rarely posted) and wanted to show them the avenue I took instead of playing the panel lottery so they can wait until, whenever they want to buy another rMBP they can do the research and see if the next generations suffer from the same things the first did. While stated I'm not an Apple lover/fanboy I do really like the MBP and look forward to getting a rMBP sometime in the future, possibly.

This is my last post in this thread. Those who have good rMBP's enjoy them!

People are making a big deal out of nothing with the image retention issue. Tbe LG screen subjectively looks nicer when compared side by side and it appears that Mountain Lion preloaded rMBPs don't have the same image retention issues as the Lion loaded ones.
