Ok to use the 12 Watt iPad charger to charge the iPhone?

I have heard it is fine. I know my wife is constantly charging her iPhone 4 with my iPad adapter, and it hasn't been a problem yet.
Does the device actually charge faster with the 10W? I've been wondering
No, the phone wont allow it to.
Beg to differ, my iP4s charges about 50% faster using my ipad charger.
I was just using my iPad retina mini charger to charge my new 6 plus. It got really hot. So I unwrapped the charger that came with the phone and put it on that and now it's charging cool. Of course my phone is new and may have been doing something in the background I wasn't aware of. And my mini battery drains fast these days so maybe there's something wrong with the charger, which also felt very warm while charging then phone. At any rate I'm sticking to the new charger for my new phone. I'm interested in reading what you more knowledgable forum members have to say. An engineer, I am most assuredly not.
I only use my Apple 12V charger and from what I learned it charges my iPhone 6P faster so it makes me happy. My understanding is that the 6 or 6P are the only Apple phones that can make use of higher charging rates of the 12-10v chargers.
I went to the Apple store a couple of days ago and asked an employee there and he confirmed the 12W charger charges the Plus faster. I bought it and it does charge it faster. WAY faster.
Yes, it is much faster. a fully charged from under 10% for my IP6 on 12w is just a bit over an hour.

This doesn't appear to be the case. I've tested my 6 pretty extensively and it tops out at 1A when charging, no matter what the source. The 6+ might be different, but unless my ammeter is broken, the 6 is capped at 1A.

I want to see screenshots of that (well, a retest). In every test I've run with 2.1A chargers, the IP6 has capped at 1A when charging. It should take closer to 2 hours to get a full charge from 10%. 10% to 90% would be about 1.5 hours. It's certainly possible my tests are flawed, but I'd want to see actual "screenshot evidence" of a one-hour 10% to 100% charge.
I've used and while it indeed charged it faster I've noticed my battery usage has decreased dramatically in the last 2 days on my 6 Plus. I haven't changed my usage habits and no longer getting those 12 hour usage with 30 hours standby stats. Last charge got me only 9 hours usage and 18 hours standby.
