I called my local Apple store and they said the phone would be activated the instant I purchased it. Is there any way to get around this other than buying it online?

In this case I'd be paying the subsidized price, with Verizon.

Good luck then, because these phone companies want their ounce of blood immediately. Since they are paying for the bulk of the phone, they want Apple to activate upon purchase.

I bought full price verizon version at the apple store. i was told by the apple employee that I can just activate it when i get home,, thats why i didnt want to open it at the apple store. and they told me it came with a nano sim card already. well guess what, it didnt come with any nano sim card or sim card tray opener. i ordered a free nano sim card online with verizon, still waiting on it to arrive. suppose to be in 2 business days, which shoudl arrive today, but no confirmation if they received my order or shipped it yet.
