The official YouTube app is a joke. They haven't updated it once since it debuted in August, which is nearly 4 months now. They should add a "HQ" button, add support for the iPad, as well as the usual bug fixes and improvements.

And volume control slider, and AirPlay, and etc...

yes it is amazing the released it missing so many things and haven't updated it.

No backgrounding. The buffer bar doesn't move while paused. (you have to play and pause again to see how much more has buffered)

You know I've not even missed the YouTube app. YouTube just works fine in Safari. Ok, doesn't have full screen but. Hey ho.

I was wondering the same thing a few days. For me, the YouTube app is a little buggy. Sometimes the videos play, other times I have to reload the app before they play. The mobile version is more stable + the player is much more familar :)

I imagine that it is coming soon and they will most likely update the iPhone version too at the same time. I'm guessing they will turn it in to a universal app too.

Google should take some inspiration from the 'Jasmine' or 'YouPlayer' apps.

I didn't understand why people were happy when ios6 beta was popping up with no native YouTube app anymore. I have yet to enjoy YouTube since , the new app sucks and you can't even get full screen on safari

Gosh I dont get it. A lot of people have already suggested a very good alternative to the official Youtube app which is Jasmine, yet many whiners still complain about the lack of integrated Youtube app/ official app. If Google decides not to honour iOS clients by not upgrading their ***** app, why would you still want to use their product? It's like S&M to me, you getting kicked in the ballz yet still scrawling back waiting for their sympathy.

Can you get HD video when using the mobile website?

Should be, there's a HQ button on the YouTube mobile site in Safari, but has yet to be implemented in the official app itself. In the official app, sometimes I try to load videos over 3G, and they give me some pathetic resolution.

That's why I use Jasmine, you can set your desired resolution within the app, for over 3G and over wifi as well, very convenient.

Doesn't look nice at all. In this case, it's like Phil Schiller saying that Android apps are just forced to widen to fit the screen.

Quick question about Jasmine - is there any quick way to bring up the search bar? Currently, I need to keep sliding all the way back to the left, and it can get cumbersome if I have watching several videos at a shot. :)

If so, then google can kiss their youtube app goodbye. :p

Even more alternatives have been appearing aside from Jasmine, like McTube, VideoTube, etc.

but all charge or have adverts/look ugly.

Actually Jasmine is neither. Looks great and free of ads. I personally use YouPlayer because of one feature, the ability to view videos in landscape mode while having rotation lock on. If Jasmine had that it would be my player by default.

When is YouTube for iPad coming out?

When are you going to figure out Jasmin is the way to go?
