Apple's product lines follow a black/white/gray color scheme. Gone are the days when Apple releases products in funky colors - this should surprise no one. If you're really serious about personalizing and customizing your phone, you should do so - but aesthetically speaking, I'd prefer Apple continue to only release their products (phones in particular) in black and white only.

Obnoxious, waste of money, no.
This is one of those instances where your taste, style, preference, etc., is just wrong if you think this is a good idea.
$250 is infinitely worth spending elsewhere.
It's all personal opinion. It looks pretty sweet but I'd rather keep my phone looking original
did you miss the ipod touch 5 gen?

ipod nano touch?

pretty funky colors if you ask me..and alive with love and glory.. so i dont think its gone like you say
You raise a really good point - I completely fogot about their iPod touch/nano line which I find ironic, considering that originally, their iPods were only released in one color (white).
I was mainly referring to products like this:

But you're right, some of their products do allow for a wider customization of color schemes. I think Apple constricted that ability when they also changed their logo from a rainbow Apple logo to either black, white, or silver Apple logos.

With that look, the iPhone 5 won't even look original anymore. But you're the kind of person that prefers customisation, why not?
I really like it, however, I'm not keen on spending $250 and sending my phone away for a week or more. It just seems really expensive unless you're going to hold onto your phone for a long time - and I don't have a spare phone to use in the meantime.
