I don't agree with this. iOS so far is only good for COMICS:D, games, movies, music and web. I want mobile productivity. Unfortunately I'm going to have to go back to windows for that. MS is not there yet but when they are I'll be switching back.

Right now the ipad compliments your laptop and PC. I want it to replace it some day.

Technology has to move forward or you will be left behind again Apple.

Yup, agreed. Needs to have more professional/simple apps and software that help students and business professionals like microsoft office ect.

Jony has done a remarkable job leading our hardware design, so let’s also have Jony responsible for the software and the look and feel of the software, not the underlying architecture and so forth, but the look and feel.
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Jony!

We shall see. I do believe in my heart that Jony Ive could have stopped the onslaught of skeuomorphism starting in OSX 10.7 with a simple protest to Steve and/or Tim. I know this wasn't his area but surely senior executives have opinions and the ears of the CEO.... especially the "master of design". And then this crap continues in 10.8.

Still not buying this whole "collaboration" thing Cook talks about. Again, we'll see.

If it wasn't for Scott Forstall none of us would know what the word skeuomorphism means. And for that we should all be truly grateful.
Plus none of us would have the iOS on their phones. And Apple wouldn't make half of their money from selling iOS devices.

"We need a high level of collaboration and in order to be more collaborative we will collaborate more collaboratively" - The Big Brother, 2012.

Why macrumors doesn't post a story about a porn site found in the Russian iTunes Store? No jokes, just google it. Should we fire Eddy Cue now? To improve the collaboration.

I assume that you are not male either? ;)

There are many talented people that don't get to make it to the top. And NO, diversity doesn't "just happen".

Besides I was simply making an observation.

Face it, without Steve Jobs (half Syrian, half Swiss) those talented people wouldn't even be working at Apple today since it would have gone belly up 12 years ago.

The "talented" people that took over Apple and kicked Jobs out ran the company into the ground.

Are you saying diversity should take priority over talent and skill? IMO the only factor that should be considered are whether or not that person can be a valuable asset to the company (or school or whatever the topic of discussion may be). Race and gender shouldn't be a part of that discussion.

Jobs saved Apple -- not because he's half-Syrian and half Swiss, but because he was a very hardworking individual.

Collaboration good. Group think bad. Improving the former risks increasing the latter. The Steve Jobs example is a powerful argument for constructive confrontation. I hope Apple doesn't become a consortium of "Yes" men and women.

Well you took entirely the wrong meaning from what I said, which is to be expected I suppose on this sort of touchy topic.

Historically in this country (and elsewhere I imagine) race and gender were VERY MUCH a part of that discussion in terms of hiring, firing and promotion decisions and it is still a living legacy. If you deny that, then you aren't facing reality or never had to face it.

Yup, agreed. Needs to have more professional/simple apps and software that help students and business professionals like microsoft office ect.

It needs a proper file system where you can open files with any app you choose and "Explore" your files. This is the only thing holding it back.

Even if they dedicated a specific section of the memory fore those files it would work. :)
Don't say the cloud because the cloud sucks until all devices have 3G-LTE and its dirt cheap. Also I want to change icons and have live icons. The date not being in the calendar icon really got on my nerves when I tried the Android OS for a while.

File explorer, yes. Shouldn't need a Jbreak for that. Tried Android as well, seems like Windows phone(s) are the way to go for people needing this type of software?

Frankly, I don't blame Forstall for NOT signing that lame apology letter. He would have been forced out anyway so why should he do a public humiliation on top of it?

Apple Maps is pretty good. Yes there were a few problems but that's to be expected. It was senior management's decision to sever ties with Google Maps and rush out a new product. Then Eddy Cue fires the manager in charge of Apple Maps. Heads must roll I suppose.

Apple seems like a pretty political place right now, people jockeying for position and throwing enemies under the bus. Looking at those photos, diversity does not exist anywhere near the reigns of power.

I just hope that in the post-Jobs era, under Tim Cook, Apple manages to continue being successful.

Difficult to know whether he would have been forced out anyway, but I tend to agree with the rest of your analysis. The decision to develop in-house maps didn't come from Forstall; at least it should not have. The break with Google was a grand strategic decision that was clearly in the works years ago. The product wasn't nearly as bad as the atmospherics, so the question in my mind is whether the right people are being held to account for those missteps or whether we're seeing a classic classic case of corporate infighting, with the people at the very top protecting themselves at the expense of the company.

Maps in iOS 6.0 absolutely blows. And that is my gentile way of saying it.

So what is non-gentile way of saying it? Oy gevalt!

We don’t subscribe to the vision that the OS for iPhones and iPads should be the same as Mac.

I used to think that a single iOS + OS X operating system was what Apple was working toward.
But now that Windows RT has been released, I see that I was wrong.

The only way to make a unified iOS + OS X / mobile + desktop OS work would be to structure iOS and OS X with layers: kernel at the bottom, GUI at the top, and to have as much in common between iOS and OS X as possible. Then Apple would need to strip out all unnecessary features from iOS (printer drivers for example) to make it lean and mean. The same basic core API and app frameworks would be there, with vastly different GUI APIs.

That's a ton of work. But Apple has already done all that, and the result is two OS-es: iOS and OS X. There are simply too many differences between a heavy full-featured desktop OS and a lean mobile OS to bundle them into a single multi-platform OS. (Am I right, Sinofsky?)

Of course, Tim was talking only software. I still think Apple absolutely must work toward using ARM-based SoCs in Macs. Starting with the MacBook Air. All it will take is a 64-bit quad core ARM SoC, which is now possible. The year-old ARMv8 spec includes the 64-bit 'AArch64' architecture, and it will run older 32-bit apps too. Just a matter of time.

Well those were not talented just business hawks. The same business hawks under Howard Stringer that drove Sony to the ground.

Steve Jobs and Akio Morita breathed and lived products. Not their balance sheet.

And I agree with your observation.

And no I am a male :)

Lots of people disagree with you. I've used it and it certainly doesn't "blow". Many people DO like directions and the fly over view. Just because you don't doesn't mean that the whole thing is a pos. Maybe to you, and you're entitled to your opinion though.

Some people get so worked up over nothing.

Besides when Google relases it's iOS maps app, you can be happy again.

Not really. Just like the Google search you can’t have it integrated.
For instance if you get an address in an email or a contact you can’t make it use the Google map app. So “WE” won’t be happy the Apple maps are a POS that “blows”. Feel free to tell us how to get it to work like that.

Cook goes on to highlight Eddy Cue's expertise in services, Jony Ive's design skills, Bob Mansfield's experience with silicon and wireless, and Craig Federighi's history of overseeing the underpinnings of both OS X and iOS. Cook is careful to note, however, that this increased collaboration is not working toward a merger of iOS and OS X as some have speculated.

And this is why I think Apple gets it on the relation between tablets and computers and Microsoft doesn't. So far I like the direction Apple is going, only implementing featuers that would work well (not just work) on the laptop/desktop but not trying to turn the laptop/desktop into a tablet (I agreed fully with Steve Jobs when he said touching a laptop/desktop screen is awkward and not good interface and gets tiring. Plus inefficient cause it means you have to keep moving your hands from the keyboard a lot. At one time Windows had that advantage over Mac cause it had a keyboard shortcut for everything so you didn't have to move your hands from the keyboard. Mac's way of using the large trackpad for gestures is far more efficient way to use a laptop/desktop and does not tire your hands out).

Windows 8? Sorry, it looks very awkward to use as a desktop OS. Especially if they expect you to use touch screen as part of the interface. That's even less efficient than having to reach for a mouse honestly.

There's nothing wrong with two different OS's that synchronize well.I think that works far better than an OS that tries to be two things at once and makes some bad compromises to do so.

Yes!
The date not being in the calendar icon really got on my nerves when I tried the Android OS for a while.

Untrue - pretty sure it's been there in iOS on the iPad since the original version.

From the article:
I’ve talked to many other CEOs who look at me like I have three heads when I talk about getting hundreds or thousands of customer e-mails in a day. It’s a privilege. It’s like you’re sitting at the kitchen table. You’re a part of the family. And we have to continue to honor that.

I think that's awesome.

Seriously he's awesome.

I wish we could have had better collaboration with google.

People who say apple maps are great aren't using it the way many of us do.

Train/subway/walking not integrated

Not complete data. Yelp?! Seriously

So do I.

My worst nightmare was that Apple would do a Microsoft and try and combine their mobile OS with their desktop OS.

Then you probably just use your iOS devices for surfing, games and media.
Some of us want to move forward instead of settling for status guo.

I know it has. And when I went to Android it wasn’t on Android. So it got on my nerves.
I love the date there and use it all the time.

This is very reassuring to hear from Tim Cook that Mac OSX, and iOS will always be separate. I don't want to see the death of the desktop, or the convergence of the desktop, and tablet like MS is trying to do.

Yeah because the iOS App store experience is just fantastic.
Yeah because sorting app reviews to read some of the more honest negative reviews experience is just fantastic.

And yeah, because the iTunes 11 experience is just fantastic :mad::mad:

Look back and forth between Cue, Federeghi, and Mansfield for a few seconds. Then look at Ive's death stare. :D
