Having lots of troubles with Win 8 in Parallels desktop 8 on MacBook Retina

I have installed the parallels trial a few days ago on my MacBook Pro 15", used the express install settings as set by Parallels, also then upped the RAM for the VM to 4GB. VM is set for best performance.

It appears that if I suspend my MacBook with the VM running (Simply closing the screen) and then wake the system up by opening it the machine will sometimes hang on the Windows desktop and restart or just restart straight away. That is OSX restarts and obviously the VM is discarded from memory and I have to boot it again.

I don't know much about Macs and don't know where to lay the blame. I can understand the VM crashing for whatever reason but is it normal for it to take out OSX too ? Typically it crashes after being suspended for a long while and or when disconnected from power and woken up with the power cable unplugged (Battery is still at 90%+ though) when it crashes.

To me it feels like the MacBook pro is to blame, something feels as if it's unable to deliver enough power or initialise something when being woken up.

Anyone got any ideas? Or similar experience perhaps. Tomorrow I will try the same but suspending just OSX with some apps open but without the Win8 VM running to see if it's the MacBook at fault or not, I figure if it crashes with no VM running in Parallels than I should repair it under warranty.

Seems it has nothing to do with parallels, the machine crashed today after waking up and parallels was not even running. Really loosing confidence in Apple hardware, this believe it or not is the 3rd MacBook Pro in a row that I have had major issues with and will have to send in for warranty.

I dont know how to troubleshoot those issues, but i've personally had good experiences with repairing disk permissions. And not using any beta or sketchy software.

And in my case, it was faulty software that was the culprit. Steam beta actually. I wouldn't blame Apple yet since we dont know if it's software or hw related.

You have to try to identify the pattern, does it happen every time its waking up? Can it be a app you have installed under your user? Try logging out with that, and make a new user on the same mac and see if the issue is still there.

Also, I would try uninstalling Paralells - and you can probably somehow keep the machine. Just install the application and see if that helps.

Also, could be bluetooth related:

Doubt it's that bluetooth issue since I am running 10.8.2 and have no bluetooth enabled devices around. Even bluetooth on the mobile is turned off.

As for OSX it's pretty much a fresh install, days old with only really parallels Installed. Will try as you suggested to log-in as a different user. But if it were the parallels install said problem would be well known by now as lots of people would have encountered it.

Just suggestions to a potential approach. You have to start eliminating one after one thing.

What about ram, have you installed ram yourself?

I don't think the MacBook Retina's are upgradeable with more RAM as it's purposely soldered on, so no I have not.

There is one reference to Paralells in the panic you posted. So I would try uninstalling, to atleast eliminate that app. And if you can force the panic to happen, you are in luck. Then you can atleast see what works and what doesnt.

Just google around and see man. Start with mbp retina kernel panic and you'll definately have something to try out!
