Since I was in high school, I tried to keep a theme in naming my equipment. Until recently, their names were:

ipad 2: Dot Matrix
ipod touch: Enzo (retired, or is he?)
iphone 4s: Glitch
Vaio: Hex (renamed fracture after the screen started to bleed, but I'm ready to forgive and change the name back)
router: Phong
mac mini: Caanan (got bored at this point)

What names have you given your equipment? Except for the Mini, everything it named after characters from Reboot.

Always stick with Asterix characters.
Network: Gaul
Laptop: Asterix
Desktop: Obelix
Phone: Dogmatix
iPad: Fullyautomatix
Router/firewall: Getafix
Media server: Cacofonix

They're great as I pick a character that symbolises what the item does.

I've only been naming my iOS devices...

iPhone 2G/4 - Songbird - Because it's an iPod and a phone, and birds can fly, and phones can fly across the room/move around with you. :p (actually a song, but that's pretty much why)

iPod Nano (okay, not iOS, but looks like iOS) - Cloudy (because it's blue)

iPad Mini - Midnight

Until all the iDevices I named my PCs, Mac and *nix boxes after mainly military aircraft like Tomcat, Eagle, Falcon, Hornet, Galaxy, Blackbird, ...

With the increased number of iPad, iPod, iPhones I got too lazy and use something like
MyPad3,
NoPhone (my old iPhone without SIM) etc.

I keep the generation in the name as I sometimes have different generation at the same time.

I name mine after rock things/planets usually.

iPhone: Obelisk
iPod shuffle: Shard
iPad: Slate

Consoles get named after spacey things;
PS Vita: Nova
PSP: Luna
(and the rest I can't remember!)

Batman Rogues

Other than my iPhone, I generally name my machines after members of Batman's rogues gallery.

Mac Pro: mrfreeze
Macbook Pro: anarky
Windows gaming rig: scarecrow
NAT: twoface
AT&T Microcell device: ventriloquist
NAS: bane
DNS/Mail/etc generic VM: joker

My VMWare server is called arkham, which is where a number of the "rogue" VMs including joker all live.

It depends on the context-
an iMac G3, the iMac G3,
I never really thought to name my computers. I would just associate the name I gave it to its real name.

Usually character names. My iPod with an awesome fire/Phoenix themed sticker cover was Fawkes. My iPhone is Rarity because it's white and elegant and my Macbook is Celestia because it's white and ... Idk, the most powerful? The queen? My ipad is Pikachunicorn because WHY NOT

I call my '08 iMac HAL, even though I should call it Alex, the new voice for Leopard.

My cell has no name, but I should call it Bongo, as it's been dropped on concrete/asphalt so many times. Or perhaps Timex, because it takes a linkin' and keeps on tickin'. ;)

I also have Toasty, Nukey, and KIA in the garage.

Margaret, my A/C, has been removed from the window. (Don't even go there.)

I've always found it rather odd that people name their electronics. It's rather off putting, IMO.
