Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to use the Mac OS X 10.8 software CD that came with my new MacBook pro to update my 1 1/2 year-old iMac, which currently runs 10.6. That's really all there is to it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in Advance

No Mac coming with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion has physical restore media included.

OS X: About OS X Recovery

If you want to make a bootable installation medium, you can follow these steps:

And if they were coming with grey Restore DVDs, they would only work on the Mac model they came with, thus you could not use them anyway. I guess you need to pay the 19 USD for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion afterall.
