I just wanted to get an idea of what platter HDD's Apple are using in the 1TB and 3TB fusion iMac? I have the 3TB and i have the Seagate ST3000DM001 (7200.14)

I checked a 1 GB fusion model (27") in the store a few days ago. The HDD was shown as "Apple HDD ST1000DM003" in System Information.
Ah so there's my idea out the door, it seems Apple use both the slow WD blue and the fast Seagate HDD in the 1TB models...
Mine will be arriving in a few days its a 27" with 1tb fusion. Is there a way to check without opening the system up? I'll gladely look if so

BTW the WD Blue was found on a non-Fusion model.
The WD blue is a average drive, the Seagate 2700.14 is one of the fastest drives on the market
Add Hitachi drives to the list, it seems Apple is using all three big brands (WD, Seagate and Hitachi). Is yours a fusion model?
WD own Hitachi but i think the Hitachi drives are still using their own technology?
Hitachi's hdd division is now owned by wd.
Seagate & WD make up 85% of the HDD market.

Im not 100% sure but i think the Hitachi drives would still be using their own technology. Just like VW owns other car company's but they don't use VW engines.
The Hitachi hard drives are, AFAICT, only in the 21" iMacs and Mac minis, which use laptop-sized 2.5" drives.
For the 27", only WD Blues and Seagate 7200.14s have been reported so far -- and, since WD Blue doesn't have a 3TB model, I think all of the 3TB drives are probably those nice Seagates.
My 1TB Fusion is ST1000DM003 which is the Seagate 7200.14.
According to StorageReview.com, the 3TB model clocks at 165MB/s READ/WRITE. That makes it the fastest 7200 rpm drive beating the former champ, the Hitachi 7K3000 (150MB/s) but still slower than the newest 10K rpm Velociraptor (200MB/s). Here's the review:

As good as that is, it's much slower than the 128G SSD fused to it which clocks 482MB/s READ and 325MB/s WRITE. So if you overflow the 128G, brace yourself for a sudden slowdown by comparison.
