Just curious here, how many extra APPLE BRAND lightning cables did you purchase ( regular lighting cable, 30 pin to lightning cable ect..... ).

I personally bought 2 extra cables, one for me and one for my wife ( wife got an iphone 5 and so did I ).

I'm so pissed at the cost of the cables I only bought 1 cable. Waiting for Amazon to come out with their cables/converters. My 4s had about 8 Amazon iPhone cables. :(

Just one for now, possibly i'll pick up another one sometime down the line but the one seems fine for now.

I had an extra power adapter and I bought one extra lightning cable to coincide with that.

Pfft I'm not gonna stock up on lightning accessories, I'm waiting until iPhone 8 when they have the new sunflare connectors

Six. I actively use 4 (plus the one that came with the phone). Two were extras I bought from the Apple store online when I thought it was a 2 week wait. I then bought 4 in person, but my two had shipped before I canceled. I just decided to keep them as spares/to give my wife when she gets my 5 and I get the 5S.

(For those interested, the 5 cables are for the following places):

1. Bedside table
2. Home computer
3. First floor bookcase (for charging during the day if needed)
4. Work computer
5. Car

Well technically "I" didn't buy them both but I put down 2.

- Work bought me one to keep at the office
- I bought one to keep at my girlfriend's place.

1) Came with iPhone 5
2) Purchased extra to use in car with charger
3) Purchased extra to use in house in a second location for charging when necessary
4) Came with iPad Mini
5) Purchased extra to use at computer for syncing both iPhone 5 and iPad Mini when necessary (yes, most of the time I use OTA but once in a while I have needed to use a direct connection)

Knowing I was going to buy an iPad mini as well, I bought two for the office, two for my briefcase, and one extra!

I bought 3 for my wife's iPhone 5. One for each car, one for the office, and use the one that came with the phone at home.

Those that bought extra cables did it for convenience. Most people also bought the 30 pin connectors years ago for convenience. The key is that most people did not buy them out of necessity.

In addition to the one that came with my iPhone 5 (that stays on my desktop for syncing), I bought three more:

1. For my car (USB hookup for charging and audio interface)
2. With my laptop for when I need to tether
3. Stashed with my ZAGG charger so I have extra power when I need it.

I'm on my 2nd one

There's no need to buy one, you have a 1 year warranty on your cable & accesories(2 if you have AppleCare). Apple will exchange it out with a new one at one of their stores.
