I want a new iMac for video editing, video gaming, lots of video heavy stuff. These are the two I am choosing between (because of cost).

Fall 2012 iMac 21.5"
2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB (two 4GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M with 512MB
$1299

OR

REFURBISHED FROM APPLE ONLINE REFURB STORE
May 2011 21.5"
2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7.
4GB memory
1TB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics with 512MB memory

$1219

I figure I can upgrade the RAM on the second one.
Is the second one better, even though it is an older model?
Which graphics card is better for video editing/gaming?
Which should I choose?

THANK YOU :)

I would consider extreme video editing working with simultaneous streams of 4K-5K RED footage for a feature length film.

If that's what you're doing, no Mac other than the top end Mac Pro with a RED Rocket card and several RAID arrays will do. Don't even bother wasting money on anything else.

If you do something less than that, only working with shorter 1080p projects, for example, get the refurbished model. It has the i7, which will benefit you more than the newer i5. Get as much RAM as it will take.
