Seems like (at least at this forum) a lot of people are experiencing all kinds of problems with the 2012 iMac. What are my chances of getting a perfect one? 27" + 1 TB FusionDrive.

People mainly come on forums to complain, rather than praise, especially in random threads (why can easily it make appear as though a epidemic is occurring), you can buy your iMac free of worry.

Dang! You spoiled son :D

The chances are fairly good for a flawless machine. There are a couple of screen faulty threads already but there usually is.

You'll be alright.

I was reading a thread and 5 people in a row in a short time frame said they were having their iMac replaced because the HDD was making a noise. Seemed strange.

I don't think you should be too concerned about that. I know lots of people (including myself) that received their iMacs without any of the issues posted on these forums. Don't be discouraged because you see lots of these threads. Generally people that post here are the ones having issues but the ones that don't generally will not post about it so it is not an accurate representation of the iMac success/failure rate.

Considering the fact that Apple likely sells somewhere around 200,000 iMacs per month, even 50 or 500 posting about problems in a forum would represent a minuscule fraction of iMac buyers. Most Mac owners don't even know about forums like this one.

Happy consumers with no problems usually don't go on forums and make threads about how flawless their iMacs are.

Unhappy consumers makes sure everyone knows how bad and/or unlucky they are with their faulty iMac.

It's nothing to what I've browsed through from years past. This refresh has been nice tons of people with flawless units.

Sorry but I do think that 90% of the people who post because of minor blemishes as apposed to the ones that are DOA or the screen is discoloured ,are having a having a sever case of buyers remorse

get with it nothing made is perfect not evan a 1 million quid Bugatti Veyron there is always something wrong , hey we cannot reproduce ourselves to be perfect and we have been trying for a long while

have you taken it completely apart and examined every joint cable connection screen printing on the logic board , then how can you make that statement

there will be something that is not perfect no matter how small

in engineering parts have a tolerance plus or minus a dimension if they fall between these the part is deemed to be good and fit for use but not perfect

Nobody here can answer your question. But if you buy one and discover a defect, chances are you'll be able to exchange it, or you'll be able to return it.

And if it doesn't affect the performance of the computer or its owner's enjoyment of it, then those 'defects' are essentially irrelevant.

For the record, another 'perfect' one here. I usually plan on a Mac lasting 5yrs (it replaced a late-2007 MBP) - my biggest concern would be if there'll even be an iMac line in 5 years when it comes time to replace it...

I wouldn't worry too much, since the new generation of iMac's are basically laptops the marketplace just became a whole lot bigger. :D

these same people probably do this kind of thing all the time with high ticket items to deal with buyers remorse in order to justify spending so much loot?

Zero problems with mine

Bought my first iMac in 2005. 3 since then. Never had a problem. My first Mac was a 128K in 1984 and includes Power Books, Mac Pros, Mac LC, Performa 6400, Power Mac 7300, G4, G5, 22" Cinema Display etc.

Only item replaced was the 22" Cinema Display foc. I still have my 128K tucked away.....

OK more expensive than a PC but the components seemed to last [ never had a hard drive go tits up]

Quality product and I get my RAM from Crucial or OWC :)

My 27" i7 3.4 Mhz 32 GB RAM 3TB Fusion 680 MX iMac seems to be following the others quite happily!

never buy a first release of an apple product, they are in 90% faulty.
fanboys say "perfect" when they have yellow screen, fan noise, temperature problems, hd issues. do not trust them.

Exaggeration is an art, especially when you don't own a new iMac.

My 27" iMac is pixel perfect, no noise, with minor backlight bleeding only visible when the screen is fully black, and then only from an angle.

I don't believe there are major issues involving 90% of the new iMac currently.

No yellow screen on mine (I work for a colour management specialist so I think I would know). Fan noise is very quiet, one of the best things about it. No temperature issues at all, hardly gets warm. HD all good thanks.

Buy a first release if its time for you to upgrade, with a year for anything that goes wrong to be sorted by apples excellent customer service (longer if you go for AppleCare like me).
I say don't trust the haters!
