I have a fixed external IP address from my ISP and am trying to put my mac mini onto it.

May seem simple, but it just does not want to work.

Any advice welcome.

The setup is :

Router
  • Is assigned a fixed IP of 123.123.123.123 (for example) by ISP
  • Router set to assign a fixed local IP of 192.168.1.13 to mac mini server
  • Router set to reroute all traffic to any port to 192.168.1.13

On the serveur
  • In Server Preferences/WEB services set to active (green light)
  • In Server Preferences/security the WEB service is listed
  • In System Preferences/Network, a manual IP address of 192.168.1.13 is set

On Directnic (my domain registrar)
  • Purchased domain name ABC.com (example)
  • In Direct DNS Basic set the A record to point to 123.123.123.123

With the above, a browser call to ABC.com fails, but that to 123.123.123.123 works. This makes me think the issue is with Directnic, or the DNS on the mac mini ??

But how can I get ABC.com to work ?

Ping ABC.COM and see if it returns the 123.123.123.123 IP address. If not, DirectNIC is your problem. I use DirectNIC and they're a good service, so it's likely just some sort of configuration error.

I've been using Directnic since always.

And indeed I had missused their interface (tht is not openly user-friendly).

Now it works for the WEB.

But am stuck with the mail system.

Any pointers to useful reading on setting up the mail system ?

Thanks anyway
