Parisian Apple Store Robbed of 1 Million Euros in Merchandise on New Year's Eve

News that doesn't get posted doesn't mean it never happened. Apple is a very high-profile company. Most people's great grandmother's know of a product Apple makes, I beg to differ if the same people can name one product from Samsung.
There is not much a store can do to protect itself from armed robbery other than locking up merchandise (Which they keep more on the floor during holidays to speed up checkouts.) And having a shootout where innocent people get hurt in an Apple store will damage their brand way more than having a bunch of goods stolen.
Having rent-a-cop's with guns will do no good as they can't kill people for theft.
What the heck was that? A $20 bill is worth exactly $20. Thieves will still steal it.
People don't steal Samsung junk because Samsung are yet to create a TV ad begging thieves to consider doing so.
I just saw Les Misérables, are they sure that it simply wasn't the citizenry rising up again? France does have a history of that.....

Theft is a Good Thing for Apple $$$
Apple could but an end to this problem if it wanted to. All they need is an on-line registry that matches device serial number to the owner. Then no-one would want a stolen Apple device because it would not work.
There are some details to work out but in general every devive (iPhone, iPad, Mac,..) has an owner, when they leave the factory the owner is "Apple Inc." and then later the buyer can register it, or not. But if he does register it then he can always remotely shut down the device or if it has a GPS, find out where it is. This function can be burned into non-erasable ROM
But on the whole I bet Apple makes money from theft. Some one takes your phone and then you buy a new one and Apple wins. Theft is on the whole a "Good Thing" for Apple even if they did just loose a few of their own.

This just in:
The SAMSUNG store in Paris was broken into via a drive by. A masked man smashed a window, threw a Nexus 4 into the store and fled!
When the police found out what happened they stopped the investigation according to crime chief Pepe Le Pew.
They pulled it off! Nice sum of products to get away with. Too bad they have to sell them all off very quickly before they get too old (in terms of generations) and worthless. They're gonna be caught for sure

If Apple's products were overpriced, then there would be no customers for their products. Given that Apple's stores are so crowded, and with waiting list for some of their products, it might, in fact, mean that some of their products are underpriced.

I think I read somewhere that they robbed from the truck, or at least during the delivery between the truck and the shop. That would make sense, considering that you don't rob 1,600 boxes inside a store very quickly ($1,000,000.00 / $600 average price).
