Battery drain from location data would only be a problem if the OS has to constantly check your location. This could be avoided altogether by having the icon display the temperature at a default location. Which would be adequate for most users anyway.

Although I would like to see iOS 7 vastly improve and change iOS...does anyone think Apple will actually revamp iOS?

I still think iOS will look exactly the same and we'll have more "Facebook integration" type features and small updates to like the Phone, Mail, Reminders, etc. apps

Nothing big.

I'd like all these:

- ability to change default apps
- iPad gestures like swiping between apps/screen
- ability to bring up the app tray by a drag like notification centre
- add your own social network integration, basically the ability to install to OS your proffered SN of choice and have it work like Twitter & FB integration
- merge photos & iPhoto apps
- widgets for NC
- Siri being able to turn off and on functions
- Maps that work
- The ability to delete default apps so I can finally get rid of useful ones like memo & bloody compass!
- merge Newsstand into iBooks
- Dynamic app icons for all 1st & 3rd party apps
- revamp Reminders to be simpler and more like Clear

----------

Oh and GameCenter

- it should scan my contacts and auto add all my friends so I don't have to individually
- league tables for games you share with friends
- notifications when you're beaten by a friend on a game (high scores, best times etc)

Have the dialer also make a name and number search through your contacts and give us speed dials (long pressing numbers), like on most Android dialers.

Apple updating the Notification Center

Apple applies for iOS 'Notification Center' patent years after Google's 'Notification Bar'

A filing published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday reveals that Apple is looking to patent the iOS Notification Center, a feature similar to Google's Notification Bar which allows mobile device users to keep tabs on a multitude of apps from a central hub.

I'd really like to be able to completly backup my iphone device onto my computer AND the cloud. Right now, it seems like it has to be one or the other.

You can you just have to do one manually. If setup to do iClound then when connected to itunes you just click the backup button on summary screen.
On the itunes screen it says the itunes is a complete backup vs. important data on iCloud. I don't know what this means - what is complete vs. important.

Maybe do both automatically? When you do a Sync in iTunes let it do a backup also - no matter what automatic backup setting is.

I hope Apple add All My Files functionality to the next version. A central place where you store all your documents, with one-level folders.

I doubt apple will do that. Maybe something like that but for all your iCloud files instead.

I think the iPhone's size limits it usefulness more than the OS, but I would like to so see my favorite jailbreak functionality:

  • SBSettings
  • Ability to position icons where ever you want.
  • Ability to KILL all background apps easily.
  • Themes.
  • Lockscreen widgets.

If implemented correctly (and we know Apple would) there's no downside to any of these.

I also believe that there will be more Facebook integration.

I believe all areas of iOS will get a makeover. I believe they will completely redo the contacts and message app with more Facebook integration. Facebook is poorly integrated today in these apps. It would be great if Facebook messages were integrated with iMessage. :)

I believe that Apple has hold back big changes to iOS because they want these updates to run on as many devices as possible. Next year iPhone 4S is the third year device inline with Apple traditions to update the devices from three years back.

yes, this is definitely related to iOS 7. Stay on topic and stop trying to start a flame war.

I use the fahrenheit app which has a badge icon notification that displays the temperature. Works for me.

I use weather On for the same reason.

I do not think apple will include NFC, i do think they will come up with something that accomplishes the same thing, but give it the Apple spin.

I also do not think they will redesign iOS it will continue to look about the same but just more added and maybe even some backdoor ways to allow more user customizing.

Unfortunately, Apple needs to hit iOS 7 out of the park frankly. They won't totally revamp it, but they'll need to add some customization and open the walled garden a bit.

When you think about it, people have been asking for this basically every year.

Pretty sure we might see some design changes but not the revamp everyone was hoping for.

At this point Apple is basically playing catch up while adding zero new features.

Maps finally got turn by turn in iOS 6 but Apple Maps has become an embarrassment. So now they have to catch up more.

Stock apps got small updates that should have been there in the first place. I mean Shared Photo Streams and FaceTime over cellular should have been added since their inception.

I dont think we'll see a UI revamp, but certainly some changes with Ive's opinion implemented.
As for features, that's up to Craig, the guy who brought us the atrocious Lion and Mountain Lion to our Macs.

I am pretty happy with iOS but wouldn't mind a the ability to remove some of the stock applications, Stocks, Newsstand, Memos and Compass having never been used on my iPhone. Even better would be not having them as standard and allow users who require such applications to download them from the App Store.

I am not a huge fan of the music Application. The icon is ugly and I would like to have podcasts be part of that application once again. I also dislike the separate videos app. So I basically want it to go back to an iPod app.

skeuomorphism is the big bad at the minute and naturally I never want to see faux stitched leather again! Brushed aluminium has never bothered me though.

One of the posts above mentioned having the multitasking tray be activated by an upward swipe gesture similar to the downward swipe of notification centre and while I like the idea it would most likely intrude on a helluva lot of games, paper toss for instance.

Game Center, if ever there was an iOS app in need of a redesign, this is it. Everything about GC is horrible from the cheesy casino-a-like design to adding friends. I t would be nice if it scanned your contacts and automatically added them to the app.

Maps, I barely use the application but just trying to input addresses into my contacts was a chore, often with the maps app taking me to the wrong place. I don't really see the point in flyover either.

Whenever I jailbreak the first 2 things I install are SBsettings and Bitesms so I guess I would like those 2 functionalities.

and for the love of god Apple please refresh that lockscreen, my goodness how many years can you go with the same exact dull looking lock screen. Spruce it up a little bit. And no adding a silly little button to swip up for camera does not count.

Apple doesn't need to hit iOS 7 out of the park. Not yet. Apple still sells its products at alarming rates and will continue to do so, no matter how lacking the OS may be. Most consumers don't care if the software is old or lacking compared to the competition, it still works easy and fine for them. Now, for you or me, yes I hope Apple does hit iOS 7 out of the park, otherwise they will definitely lose sales to the more "informed" costumers. If iOS 7 is another dud, I will bid my final farewell to iOS.

Songs should automatically be synced to iOS devices if played more that 5 times in a day.
