MacBook Pro Retina - The burn in issue

I would say that the claims that all of the LG screens have problems while the Samsung ones do not is a rumor. There have been people who have had faluty Samsungs and perfectly fine LG's as well. You've got a whole year before your warranty expires, so the chance that it will start getting issues after that year is very, very small. So just enjoy your MacBook Pro and take it to Apple if any issues do come up.

Well, the issue is with image retention... So, for example, if you left a photo open on your MBP for half an hour, when you shut it you'd still be able to see a 'ghost' of that photo there. If this isn't happening to you, then your display does not suffer from image retention.

As for the people who claim that Apple send the Samsung screens to people that complain, that is simply not true. Some people have reported sending their faulty LG screened MBP back and getting sent another with a LG screen. Several times, in fact. So it seems that it's chance as to which type of screen you get, and then wether that screen is faulty.

I just got an rMBP last week with an LG Display. Don't go looking for images that will tax your display and you will be fine with everyday use.

Very few people have had *real* issues with the display, like browsing and doing something else and seeing a faint image of the address bar...

I don't have that issue so far. If it happens then Apple will take care of it.

Actually, I think there are far more mention of LG screens having image retention, and zero (feel free to correct me on this) mention of Samsung screens exhibiting the issue, so if it's just "image retention", I think LG is a lot more prone to it than Samsung.

Also I think one needs to specifically request a display replacement at the Apple Store in order to get a Samsung display as a replacement. I could be wrong, but again, I have seen zero mention of anyone asking Apple to "replace the display" (just the display, not the whole computer) and getting an LG screen in return.

As for whether Samsung or LG is better, with color saturation, contrast, etc... I think that's all up to personal preference and other factors.

In short, I think it's flat out true (experienced this myself), and not just a rumor. Unless someone can show me a single Samsung screen that does exhibit image retention.

I'm posting this more as a "caution" rather than to press a point, as I've been down this road before several months ago, and I had to replace my display in the end.

I have a retina macbook pro from July and it didn't show any image retention until this December. I'm going to an Apple tech specialist tomorrow. I unfortunately am no where near an Apple store. The tech will diagnose it then said he would replace the screen. However there is a chance that Apple could send him another LG screen to replace my IR plagued one with. :|

I was told that here in Canada you cannot mail in your laptop for repair to Apple which I wanted to do. You need to go to location where there is an Apple technician or to an Apple store.

I got a rmbp in November. It has a samsung display--and it has a very mild yellow/dirt tint in the lower-left quadrant (much lighter than most) along with minor mura--I only see these defects if I really look for them. So a samsung does *NOT* guarantee you a good screen. I see these defects based on viewing angle--from the side or top, they disappear. Other than that, no image retention, no backlight bleed, and no uniform color tint.

However, I will most likely be keeping it (I have until 1/7 to change my mind). Why? Because it seems most everyone has some uneven, non-uniform screen issue with these retina displays--and that includes the iPads. My issues are very minor, so I will chance it. Every laptop I have ever had has had some kind of minor viewing angle shadow.

And if the defects get worse, I got 3 year AppleCare that will take care of it. I had creaking on my rmbp when I first got it--1 hour at the Genius Bar fixed it right up.
