Then you have to check here at least daily for refurbished iMacs, or go the eBay route.

Quite frankly, because I am also old (very old), I would suggest a Mini hooked up to a 22 - 24 inch Matte screen with a resolution no greater than 1080p.

It's the eyes, believe me!

If the eyes get really bad get a 27" iMac and check this article:

You can change the display from 2560 x 1440 to 1280 x 720 retina display, so everything is really big but without losing any quality.

Glossy screen - deal killer! Glasses can fix sight problems, but accentuate glare.

I have two Dell 2209WAs, which are EPS, matte, with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, and find them to be perfect for my needs.

Buy you dad an iPad 4 3g. Not an iPad mini the screen is too small. My parents are in theirs 80s and they where never happy with a computer. I gave them an iPad and they just love it. The best thing I could teach them over the phone as they live 300 miles away. The whole family pays for their Internet connection yearly.
