The question is will they sacrifice one of the ports (most likely Ethernet) in order to achieve this slight reduction in size?
They wouldn't be Timmy's Apple if they didn't.

Why should we WAIT for Apples TV? Other manufacturers have probably better TVs.I want the 'big' Apple TV...you know the mythical one we are waiting on.
I would actually be stoked by a "modular" AppleTV. That way I could upgrade the puck with new abilities, without having to throw away some huge, expensive display. Alas, it is probably too good to be true.
What point would there be in it having an A5X processor? The A5X is just an A5 with an extra GPU to help drive the iPad 3's retina display.
Rip out the guts of an iPod Touch. Toss the battery, display, cameras, and speaker. Stuff the power supply inside. That's how small. They could even put the power supply outside by making it use an iPhone 'charger' and a Lighting cable.

Will be interesting to see where this leads. They must be shrinking it down for a reason, and I doubt that would be the only change they make. I'm assuming there will be new hardware in it, but with the current hardware coping just fine it must be for some new feature i.e. App Store.
I have been wanting to get an Apple TV for some time, but there is so much uncertainty in this area that I can't pull the trigger. There is no way I'm buying a new "TV", my current one is fine and will last for years, but I would like the hockey puck, but have been paralyzed by the churning of the rumor mill. I wish they would release a new model soon so that I could feel like I'll get some life out of it before they do something else.
4K and h.265
I'm wondering if we are going to see Analog out on the device, OR an HDMI passthru, so Apple TV isnt taking up an HDMI input on TVs where they are at a premium. I can't imagine they are going to shrink the box, just to shrink the box, not enough gain in that small of a shrink.
Is there really a market for a $20 cheaper Apple TV? I mean, I'm completely OK with the Apple TV being $20 cheaper, but I really doubt that there's anyone out there who's on the fence because of the price difference.

We will never see the mythical Apple Television until Time-Warner and Comcast agree to terms with Apple.
Well certainly no internal SSD then, which is a shame. I would wager this will have WIFI AC, along with new Time Machine / Airport Express / Airport extreme following shortly after. Quite possibly an increased flash so as to accommodate a few custom apps, but nothing more...
Which will happen once we work out a way to get steve jobs to do some posthumous hard line negotiations with these types of dinosaurs.
If this is the only change then they are truly lost when it comes to what their customers want.
You do realize that there is an iPhone 5 with maybe 1/2 the internal space that has 64GB of flash storage, right? Even the current ATV models have 8GB. It's not really going to matter unless Apple opens up the OS to developers so we can get custom apps.
Considering mine is mounted in a cradle on the back of my TV, the size has never been a concern for me. Give me HBOGo and some other apps, then we'll talk.
Apps would decimate the console business. Please, please, please.
Im not at all loose with money, but at less than $100 I think its a pretty safe buy at any time (unless you are in a country with very limited channel apps).
and here I thought they were already incredibly small
