The iPhone 4S already starts out at 16gb, so I don't see how this would mess it up, in factor would line things up perfectly. You would have:
iPhone 4S (8gb) - Free
iPhone 5 (16gb) - $99
iPhone 5s (32gb) - $199
iPhone 5s (64gb) - $299
Read the press release from apple. Clearly targets professionals, not office workers.
The price of the iPad 128 should define its own limits so it doesn't overlap into another (more capable) product's range (like, the MacBook Air), which Apple doesn't seem to understand, yet.
Another poster reminded me of the annoyance of minimal storage when shooting video. I think a 30 minute video took up 4GB. When you had about 14GB with nothing on the phone, holy moly. Add in Photostream, music, apps, etc etc and I can fill up whatever you give me. I would easily settle for a 64GB phone at $299.

u never know man... think about it, 16GB really is too small for our retina apps these days. granted, songs, pictures, etc.
Isn;t the 16GB model the most popular? You guys are very optimistic but I think it's unlikely that Apple would drop the 16GB model and offer the 32GB for the price of the 16GB. A company like Apple wouldn't reduce its margins like that.

This is exactly what I'm talking about -- this nonsense that you are "lazy" if you want a lot of storage. 64GB isn't even enough for me to store my entire music collection -- how is it lazy that I want to have my entire music collection on my device, especially considering that I can do that on an iPod Classic released 5+ years ago? I don't have 500+ apps, any HD movies, or any books on my device. Most of my storage is used up by my music, followed by photos/video I have taken, and then about 9GB of apps.
The reason for the 9GB of apps is partially because I have various music creation apps, which take up a good amount of storage due to sound samples. For example, GarageBand takes up 500MB. A 16GB device would be really constrained for music creation (especially an iPad). Am I lazy for wanting to have these apps on my device? That makes no sense at all.
Sure, you might be fine with 32GB because you don't want to use the device the same way I do. But don't call people "lazy" just because they want more storage and want to use their device in a way that uses a lot of storage.
I have about 6TB of storage in my Mac Pro (excluding backups). Am I lazy for using that much storage?
i guess you can say that it's the most popular because it's the cheapest. now after they buy it, a heavy user will soon realize that 16GB is not enough. for a light user, yes, talk and text that's fine. LOL
well apple need to have a selling point and by far, speed and storage are their selling points for upgrades.
I would like my wife to end up with a 32 GB for the same price as a 16... I always want to put music on there for her but I don't want her to have the same problem I had with running out of space when taking pics.
It doesn't really matter to me. I don't need that much space, so I wouldn't buy it even if it were available. YMMV.
iPad 64GB: 2x 32GB chips
iPhone 64GB: 1x 64GB chip
Not sure what the time scale is on mass producing 128GB chips, and I doubt we'll see a 128GB iPhone in the next two years. Maybe the iPhone 6S.
And I could say the same thing with those that attack us who own 16GB/32GB models.
Pretty annoying hearing, "oh you have to get the biggest" or "go big or go home".
Some dont have $500 to finish out for a smartphone or $900 for a tablet.
I'm sure it's annoying to hear someone make the same quality of argument you were making, but in the opposite direction.
But I'm not attacking anyone for their size choices, in fact I'm saying there is a variety of different sizes that people may want and be willing to pay for. I don't understand why you would attack someone on either end of the spectrum, and why wanting larger storage means someone is "lazy".

It wouldnt make sense price wise for Apple for an ipad just to have 1 128gb chip.
With all that space you can fit like 3-4 different memory modules.
Go with 2 smaller chips and save money.
Maybe, but someone in another thread pointed out to me that in tear downs the latest had just the 1 chip. I never bothered to check with iFixit's teardown but I assume they didn't lie.

The iPad has room for TWO NAND chips, so the 128Gb variant will use 2x64Gb for a total of that capacity.
The iPhone has room for ONE NAND chip, so a 128Gb variant would need a 1x128Gb. This technology isn't quite ready yet, let alone economical.
step 8, 1 16gb flash chip, doesn't look like there's room for a 2nd in the ipad 4...
